Camels and Pyramids

Camels and Pyramids 

The first thing Shekhar did was look for Prerna as he entered Bajaj house however he didn’t have to look too far as the aroma of delicious food led him into the kitchen. 

“Mrs Mehra sends her love” said Shekhar as he handed over one of his wife’s desserts to go with their Sunday evening  meal.

“Thank you so much Kuki will be over the moon” replied Prerna with a smile taking the tray of goodies from him. 

“My pleasure” he replied perching on a stool at the kitchen bar.

“Can I help?” He asked seeing Prerna finish preparing for their meal. 

“That’s very sweet Mr Mehra but all done,  would you like a drink?” She smiled.

“please” he nodded. 

“You’re looking very cheery koi khaas vaje” She asked whilst handing over a soda from the fridge.

Shekhar smiled there was certainly something he wasn’t sharing just yet but had to now he’d been put on the spot” 

“Well actually, Mrs Mehra and myself have decided we’d like to travel the world.”

Prernas eyes lit up at Mr Mehras news. 

“Oh that’s just wonderful, I’m so  pleased for you both. She smiled walking around the kitchen counter to give Mr Mehra a hug. Over the past one or two years Prerna had shared her woes with him and he with her and to see him so happy made her feel wonderful.

“Aap ne Mr Bajaj ko bataya?” She said breaking away from him. 

“Not yet” said Shekhar both of them wondering wether with Rishabh would allow Mehra to take time out of work. 

…

“Da” mumbled little Sneha peaking her head up at her father from behind his chair and then hiding as soon as  he raised he raised  his eyes from his phone to look for her.  

“Hmm” he managed to reply by the time she was gone.  

He of course knew she was just behind his chair and smiled continuing his work. 

“Da..” he heard for a second time 

“Yes” he answered again but no Sneha. 

“Da” she shouted for a third time.  this time popping her little face around from behind the back of  his chair and hiding again. She was the most adorable little thing. 

“I see you” he said this time catching onto his munchkins game. 

 “No ya don’t” she said to his surprise.

 He smiled to himself at how she could now string together small words. 

“Yes I do” he said pretending to be concentrating on his phone. 

“No ye don’t” she said again.

“Yes I do” he replied.

Now this could go on for a while he thought and so this time around he kept quite and the moment Sneha popped her head around to see if her da was still there he lifted her by her little blue dungarees and placed her on his lap.

“Trouble” he said in a fatherly tone with warm eyes and his pumpkin giggled. 

…

“How long?”  Asked Rishabh as he soothed a sleeping Sneha who had fallen asleep in his arms .

“6 months” replied Mehra quietly neither of them wanting to wake the little one up.

There was silence for a moment as Rishabh gave it thought. 

… 

“Make it 12 months you deserve a break” he said.

“Thank you sir” smiled Mehra with a sigh of relief. 

Prerna smiled having witnessed her husband be so supportive of Mr Mehra but she was here to remind the gentlemen that this was their home and not the office. 

Which meant less formality and more family, especially as dinner had been served and kuki had been waiting all day for her favourite dish.

“I’ll help lay the table said Mehra in good time so Prerna had very little time in which to get cross whilst Mr Bajaj looked far too fatherly to get mad at with Sneha in nested in his chest.

… 

“Mr Mehra can you bring me back.. a ….camel.. No! a pyramid” said Kuki from her seat next  Mr Mehra at the dinner table. 

“which ever fits Best in your suitcase” she said sweetly.

“Maybe they both will” replied Mr Mehra making Kuki smile from ear to ear”

“Kuki ready to wash your hands? Asked prerna who could see Kuki was done with her food. 

Kuki nodded and climbed off her  chair and walked into the kitchen.

Once she was done she returned to kiss everyone goodnight. First her Pa, then Mr Mehra and finally Prerna. 

..

As Prerna cleared the table Rishabh looked to Mehra to finish off the conversation they were having earlier. Start Recruiting for your role Mehra, someone trustworthy, capable.

Of course replied Mehra.

The conversation made Prerna wonder and later that evening as Mr Mehra took his leave Prerna saw him off to the door, stopping him before he could leave

“Mr Mehra Do you think I could do the job?”

Mehra a little surprised at first soon enough gave her his professional opinion.

“I don’t see why not..” 

..

That night as Rishabh initiated intimacy Prerna wished to make her thoughts known to him. 

In between the feeling of his lips against her neckline, his undressing of her and the compromised  position he had her in beneath him there seemed to room for conversation.

“Aap se kuch kehna tha, puch na tha” (There’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”)

“I’m listening” replied Rishabh a little muffled continuing to kiss and caress her. 

“I’d like to apply for Mr Mehras role”

She said as well as she could do with Mr Bajaj romancing her the way he was. 

Feeling his lips abruptly leave the spot in the crux of her neck he had been kissing Prerna braced herself.

Rather than reply with words she felt him tilt his head and hers so thier eyes could meet.

And they did.

He seemed to be searching hers for motive and she  his reaction.  His silence made her nervous

“Agar aap ki ijaazat ho toh” ( if that’s okay with you) she added reminding him of her loyalty to him above all.

Rishabh was impressed by Prernas initiative. He chose not to tell her but he was proud at the  signs of change in her character she’d learnt more under his wing then she let on. 

“You don’t need my permission” he replied reminding her she was free to make her own decisions.

“I know but I’d like your blessing.” She said intoxicating  him further with the wifely lure  that worked every time. Taking her lips within his and continuing his ways with her was how he chose to show his approval.
