I do not think she or her filmography are underrated. Madhuri is rather overrated. She is not the biggest star ever. Only one of the biggest stars.

HAHK is her only memorable commercial film that has some quality. Others like Ram Lakhan, Tezaab, Saajan etc., are routine stuff. DTPH - she looked older and lacked the youthful energy that the film required. Tridev - how much was she in it? Even Sonam had more lines than her and it is Sonam's song that became biggest hit.

Most of her films are only remembered for her songs and dances.

If you subtract her sizzling songs in Khalnayak she is clearly miscast as a lady police officer. Even the scenes with her beating and cussing at lady prisoners could not make her convincing. She seemed to be trying too hard.

She is pathetic in Aansoon baney angaarey. Both in old age scenes and action/rage scenes.

Beta has no quality. Just a regular saas bahu saga, only remembered for Dhak dhak song now.

Parinda, Mrityudand, Pukar, Dharavi, Anjaam, Lajja are the only truly different films she has done.

She cannot pull off roles that require show of rage or comic timing.

I feel she is talented but more of a wasted one. She and filmmakers that she worked with are responsible for stereotyping her. They promoted even different films like Lajja and Anjaam through her dance numbers!

I do not remember her attempting risky subjects or doing roles belonging to different era/nationalities/cultures. Please enlighten me if she did any!

She has no notable credits in other languages and post Devdas filmography is poor.

Yes, we can take out her Choli Ke Peeche from Khalnayak but then not many would have gone to see that film.

What biggest female superstar? Her record is nothing in front of Hema Malini and Nargis. You want stats? And in terms of actresses who are timeless it is Madhubala. No one has been remembered and venerated as she was and is.

Madhuri is just one of the biggest stars.

For me she is just a masala actress who modelled herself after Madhubala and could dance. She is not even original.
