It is truly sad that mental health is taken so casually and in such a light vein. Not just this but every social cause for that matter.

Really, if this is how we are going to be discussing sensitive topics and this is going to be our treatment of a child character, nothing wrong in concluding that the show is turning out to be a menace by giving a wrong message.

Even young babies just months old will express separation anxiety, stranger anxiety. We don’t instantly declare that babies have a mental disorder or illness. Parents( in their 40’s 50’s) also go through anxiety and depression when the kids leave home. A phase of empty nesters take time to cope with. Anxiety that stems from separation (& neglect in this case) isn’t genetic by any means.

Coming back to Adhya, initially her separation anxiety was not even acknowledged, leave alone addressing it. Which has grown into hatred for the person she thought was her mother. Anupamaa and Anuj yelling back at her is only going make it worse. I feel sorry those who have a narrow mind to turn a blind eye and continue to remain ignorant.

Anupama had anxiety issues while she was married to Vanraj (her actions in trying to keep up with the ever demanding Leela, Housework. Example shown when she was out with her friends). She was shocked and in a horrible state for days on end when she discovered the affair. By the by, multiple doctors were called to check on her including a psychologist.

She is seen with stress eating disorder (having chocolates when anxious).

She has a panic attack ever so often in any tense situation. She is seen to be dizzy every now and then due to stress.

Pakhi had issues and was treated by a professional especially during Anupama-Vanraj divorce. Thereafter, she was again treated for depression when she tortured Adhik and wanted to implicate him of abetment to suicide. I am not sure if i recall correctly if she attempted suicide or not.

Paritosh was treated for "Anger Management" in the name of an excuse for his infidelity (declared by Anupama herself).

Vanraj was under therapy for depression after his Son's untimely. Vanraj was shown to be taking medicines to calm his nerves just a few episodes back and was shown to have consulted a doctor.

Barkha has been shown popping pills to calm her anxiety.

How is it ALL of this is overlooked and what is being discussed? To declare a child as mentally ill. smiley32.

Adhya was an adopted child. That in itself comes with a LOT of insecurities, fear of abandonment. She faced abuse and neglect immediately after entering their life (which was, but a Trophy child for Anupama). Infact her own parents did not know that she was suffering panic attacks and it was Barkha who noticed and notified her parents but even then, her adoptive mother prioritised a child who had an army of people to look after amd neither parents to give her the assurances and peace she needed.

The child was constantly exposed to drama, fights, scheming so much so, that her father was forced to send her off to a "summer camp" during New Years where her adoptive mother never bothered to call and neither adoptive parents knew that she had fallen sick. The adoptive mother let her be manipulated and did not bother correcting the perception she was fed with that she is the reason for fights between her adoptive parents.

She found and lost her birth mother in trying to save her adoptive mother leaving her like a lost soul. The adoptive mother continued to ignore and neglect her trophy daughter while she was subject to constant abuse and manipulation and made to feel that she would be "discarded" from her adoptive parents' life and BOTH PARENTS NEVER BOTHERED TO PROTECT HER OR assure her leading to constant insecurities.

A series of incidents occur culminating with the dreadful accident where she was left alone in a locked car, she saw her fears coming true. Although she was saved by GOD'S grace, the fear lingered. This was followed by the mother ABANDONING her without backward glance or assuring her leading to a deep etched trauma, so much so, that they are forced to leave the country.

She undergoes treatment for the trauma and with the unconditional love and care from Shruti she blooms into a happy athlete. Then she comes face-to-face with the source of her trauma and despite her pleas, she is FORCED to interact, associate with the family that abused her and live with the woman who is the reason for her distress. Despite ALL this, she shows immense bravery and presence of mind to save herself and Pari (who she feels was more favoured) only to witness, the only mother she had ever known, Shruti being shot and on the verge of losing her making her traumatised and suicidal.

She sees her father and his ex-wife betraying Shruti, the only mother she had and when she confronts them, she is recounted of the favours done on her followed by being subject to constant harsh and rude behaviour every time she tries to remind her father of his commitment, so much so, that she now understand that neither promises made to her by her father hokd any importance in his life nor what she thinks, says, feels matter to him.

The only symptoms we see is her rudeness and raised voices, which is perhaps, the least degree that one would display.

Having gone through so much at such a young age, must say, she is holding up pretty well, even so called parents and fully grown adults on the show haven't.

None of the childhood trauma justifies her deliberately endangering another younger child's life just to test the alleged evil adoptive mother. Like, the lack of empathy is astounding. Pari could have died. And Upma, being the terrible adult that she is just brushed the entire incident under the rug.

And all this because some child put some mehendi on her 50-something father's ex.

Adhya is not a well-adjusted kid. Her parents or guardians neither provide her mental healthcare or correct her seriously self-centered precocious ways. They are setting her up to be a terrible adult (irl). In Upmaaverse, she'd be the next lead lol.

Sorry but anxiety depressive disorder, PTSD, Partum depression all are mental illness and have clinical correctives. Like fever is a symptom of a physical illness, panic attacks are a symptom of a mental illness

It is not at all shameful to be mentally ill in any which way. It is not an insult. Don't understand the need to euphemise something so clinical. It just increases stigma around healthcare and prevents people from ever seeking clinical help.

Either Adhya is traumatised thereby going through the mental illness of PTSD that can be corrected by a doctor or she isn't. Both are acceptable states of being

Hurting people is shitty in either states lol.

True, the lack if empathy towards the trauma of a child is truly astounding. To the extent that people wish ill for them.

It is truly astounding that the other adult's actions as a consequence of a similar trauma have resulted in lifelong damages which is not even recognised.

The extent of support for the lead is astounding that despite knowing how bad the character has grown and impacted every other character, every other character will be bashed unabashedly with a consolation line for the root cause of ALL these.

On another note, ALL the characters on the show, the leads included need professional medical help but definitely not from where they previously received because on their return, they have turned out to be even more vile.

Forget adhaya trauma because of anupama leaving in general

Kids nowadays are unable to handle the pressure at home and school

expectation to get 90% marks is too high from paents

Above that tut ions, swimming class, tennis class etc leaves them no time to play

Nowadays majority kids are traumatized unlike kids who were born before 2000s

Atleast till 2000s kids had some time and freedom to play or do what they want

Nowadays parents just give kids a mobile or ipad and assume they will be ok are always busy in work and socializing

kids who have ran off from school or house

or who have attempted suicide for small things like parents scolding for watching mobile is common news nowadays

parents before 22000s had time for kids as job was only 9 to 5 now its like 12 hours work or calls from home etc its a messed up family life

Kids suffer most in all this

Its not only about adhya trauma

Many kids are not getting parents love care and attention like before

So mocking adhya or balming her will not solve this grave issue adhya faces

In this show parents are unfit to father or mother a child be it anuj or anupama both are immature self centered narcissit who abuse kid and threaten her or blame her for their faults

Sadly in india or asia abuse of child not taken seriously by law or govt no protection for kids- parents can abuse and hit, teachers can hit and abuse, grandparents, uncle, aunty can ht and abuse no one acts

Hence many kids grow up with lot of trrauma

Its not only adhya problem

Its becoming a problem in many cities and family

Unlike parents till 2000s(our parent gen) , nowadays adults are not mature to do parenting or not ready for the role. They are not prepared for the responsibility and remove all anger on child at home. They fight each other or in laws or boss and remove anger on kid at home. Anupama is prime example of this. Being 55 years old she have no idea how to behave in front of own kids and grand kids screaming shouting threatening slapping is this how you behave with kids or grand kids?

Anuj is another immature abusive father who threatens child to bend as per his wish.

Parents like anuj anupam ais what is called toxic parenting and determintal for child mental growth

Not that others are great parents but they are much better than anuj anupama in way they treat their kids

Only vanraj treated samar badly till divorce than he also became better father to samar

Vanraj treatment towards Samar was not completely wrong. He just wanted him to complete his studies n get a job n stability. Vanraj never had any ill intentions towards Samar. He just wanted a better life for him.

It is a common thing in Indian societies.

You explained it so well. Being mentally ill is not a stigma and if Aadhya does suffer from mental illness (it is shown she does), then she needs help and support, medical intervention ie. But that said, it does not give her carte blanche authority to unilaterally decide and determine her father’s life. That is shitty behavior.
