I agree that Aadhya is perfectly justified in her hatred for Anupama. But her locking Pari in a dark room is unpardonable. What harm did Pari do to Aadhya that the former was locked in a dark room? The 2 events that bought about the divorce between Anuj and Anupama were "Pari's Birthday Party" and "Accident On Return From Picnic".
01. Pari's Birthday Party : Kinjal invites her "Maid Mummy" for Pari's birthday celebrations and defying Vanraj waits for Anupama. Anupama bakes a birthday cake for Pari at KM. Kinjal is such a toxic daughter who has not invited her own mother Rakhi ji (Rakhi Dave) for Pari's birthday celebrations. What ehsaan did Anupama do to Kinjal that she has not invited her own mother Rakhi ji (Rakhi Dave)? Kinjal was indeed shameless that she had given a chance to Toshu to become a good father instead of slapping the divorce papers on his face after the latter's infidelity was revealed to Kinjal. Had Kinjal done that even Rakhi ji (Rakhi Dave) would have supported her. But Kinjal preferred to be a door mat like her "Maid Mummy". Vanraj did not like Kinjal inviting Anupama and Anupama's birthday cake is given to a watchman. Anupama deserved that humiliation from Vanraj. Naturally, Aadhya was jealous that Anupama had baked a birthday cake for Pari.
02. Accident On Return From Picnic : Aadhya is responsible for this accident which took place 5 years ago. Who ever goes with Anupama, their lives are bound to be in danger. What Anupama did was right in the situation and Vanraj promptly banishes Anupama's entry in SH, rightly calls her "Panauti" (Indeed Anupama is a Panauti) and the latter cuts of all ties with SH . And in KM, Anuj loses all his patience and lashes out at Anupama for "Taking her married life for granted" and recalls events where Anuj and CA were left all alone. Whatever Anuj spoke in KM was 100% correct. Instead of accepting her short comings gracefully, Anupama tears apart her family pic with Anuj and Aadhya and more shockingly decides to break her wedding with Anuj.
As if the mess that Anuj created (Anuj had inherited Anupama's baggage with the toxic Shah family after marrying her) for himself was not enough, he had dropped the bomb of adoption on Anupama without consulting her. All these factors meant that Anuj and Anupama's wedding had ended in divorce after 3 years. But Anupama was more at fault than Anuj.
Anupama was always a door mat wife for Vanraj where as Anuj was always a door mat husband for Anupama. Anuj and Anupama should not have got married with the latter's baggage of the toxic Shah family and also Anuj should not have adopted Aadhya. Anuj and Aadhya were crushed heavily under the weight of Anupama's baggage with the toxic Shah family.
Had Anuj married at the right age in the US after setting up his own business, he could have lived happily and might have had his own children as well without him having to adopt Aadhya.
