These days it takes lots of work to figure out if something is genuine journalism or just a well researched and well presented propaganda.

Germany has the most aggressive testing hence lots of cases but few deaths.

Possible, but just an estimate. And they're relying heavily on Wuhan data, which may not be reliable.

The death rate in Germany is ticking up, though. It was around 0.4% earlier, now over 2%. Still well below Italy, Belgium, France, Holland and UK, which are > 10 %.

Though,

it shouldn't be too difficult to get a better estimate.

My neighborhood has 1000 homes. Test one per home and with Abbot's 10 min test results, it should not take them more than 2days to estimate. I'm not a statistician, but I'm sure the folks who are modeling this epidemic would know better.

If Trump's claim of 1million plus testing till date is accurate, that should be enough data to get a better estimate.

Based on how quickly it is spreading in retirement homes, I think anyone who got infected in March and staying home for past 4 weeks has already infected others in their home.

However,

They don't have too many kits and cartridges for the 10 min test, and every lab and hospital wants one. There is still a major backlog of tests in many areas, and of swabs and trained personnel to take the swab. They can't really do it for random people right now, they have to focus on the at-risk in most states.

The NIH is working on a test of a sample, but it's still not random. And really, it's not so easy to get a random sample that is representative of the population you're trying to measure.
