I have watched both and Maidaan is superior in every way
Chak De India was a hit when it released in 2007.
Was the audience more evolved at that point of time?

No offence but Maidaan can never reach the euphoria created by Chak De. ❤️ CDI is an emotion you can't deny.
Also, nowadays there's such readily available content that films don't linger in anyone's mind. The audience moves on quickly.
Haven't seen Maidaan, but I somehow feel it's missing the energy of Chak De India, as per what I've seen in promos. For instance, there is no high-octane, popular song in Maidaan, compared to the mega popular Chak De India title track!
The soundtrack of Maidaan is awesome

Maidaan is a good, well-made film. No doubt about it.
But to say that it's better than Chak De India is a bit of a stretch.
Chak De was one of the most cherished and celebrated films of its times, loved by classes and masses alike.
Truly a gem and totally worthy of being called a classic.
In that sense, Maidaan is nowhere close to it.
1. Maidaan is a superior film technically and emotionally, but it's lengthy.
2. Chak De is a feel-good movie which also checks all other boxes like women empowerment, hit song etc.
3. More than anything Maidaan is a "tragedy".
Put these together, and you have a lengthy movie with a tragic ending (both character-wise and sports-wise). There was/is no way such a movie gonna lapped up by the audience in a big way. Such movies rarely get big numbers. It was destined to fail no matter how good.
Your takes are always so interesting… one of them was on Fighter being a film neither for the masses or classesOriginally posted by: simplyrdb

Maidaan was long in making
Chak De! was ernest, foresighted, nuanced, and prophetic. No movie will come cclose to it in this era. Amin should have made more movies, man.
