Three films were released this Dussehra, including Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Jigra, and Vettaiyan. Unfortunately, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan's Vettaiyan has struggled at the box office and has yet to recover its production budget, raising the possibility that the lead actor may need to compensate the producers.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan was made on a budget of 300 crores. Initially intended as a mid-budget film, costs escalated significantly with the inclusion of stars like Fahadh Faasil and Amitabh Bachchan.

In its first eight days, Vettaiyan has grossed approximately 123.68 crores across all languages in India. However, on Monday, the film experienced a staggering drop of over 70%, and the decline has continued, with estimates indicating collections of only 2.30-2.45 crores on Friday. To recover its costs, the film needs to increase its earnings by 142%.

Lyca Productions, the backing studio behind Vettaiyan, has previously collaborated with Rajinikanth on several projects, including 2.0, Lal Salaam, and Darbar, all of which have resulted in financial losses for the producers. With Vettaiyan also underperforming, it was expected to help recoup some of those losses, but it has instead added to the disappointment.

According to reports from Track Tollywood, Lyca Productions has reached out to Rajinikanth to discuss potential compensation for their financial struggles. The superstar may need to agree to star in another film for the production house at a reduced salary to help them recover costs. Whether he will accept this arrangement remains to be seen.

The supporting cast of Vettaiyan includes Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami, and Ramesh Thilak. The film was released on October 10, 2024.
