New Zealand would look to try out a few youngsters and lay the foundation for the next iteration of future ICC events. Over the last few World Cups apart from India the Kiwis have been one team who have made it to the semifinal and final stages consistently. However, this time the side looked over the hill and seemed like they needed to rebuild once they returned home.

As per Papua New Guinea, it is all about playing against the big boys of cricket and learning and improving. The clash against New Zealand irrespective of the result will be another great opportunity for them to test themselves and where they stand. Having said that given the form of Williamson’s men, a great innings or a great spell from a PNG player will set an alarm station in the New Zealand camp and could cause potential upset.

Despite their reputation for consistency at ICC events, the Kiwis have suffered the consequences of a slow start, with two early losses resulting in their unexpected departure from the tournament.

Nevertheless, the match holds great importance for the New Zealand squad as Trent Boult has announced that this will be his final T20 World Cup representing his nation.

Motivated by Boult's announcement, Kane Williamson and his teammates will strive to deliver their best performance against PNG, who have suffered defeats in all three of their matches thus far.

A consolatory win over a lowly Papua New Guinea would be the best that the New Zealand can walk away with in this T20 World Cup, with curtains coming down on their T20 World Cup campaign prematurely.

There's a lot of pride in the dressing room and playing for the country. We've had some great records across the however many years and it's something that we don't look at too much. We come here to do a job and perform the way we know how to perform and play the game in the way that we want to play it. Unfortunately, we've been off the ball over the last couple of weeks and that's what it takes to not qualify. So, it's unfortunate but I think there's still some tremendous talent inside that dressing room and coming through the ranks in New Zealand cricket. So, we're a proud nation and I think it will continue to go that way.

Boults' last WC game

The game will, however, carry a massive significance for the Kiwi group as Trent Boult has confirmed this is his last T20 World Cup for the country and the Kane Williamson-led side will be motivated to give their best against PNG, who have lost each of their three matches so far.

NZ's early exit

For a team as consistent as New Zealand in ICC tournaments, the Kiwis have paid a heavy price for being sluggish at the start as a couple of defeats upfront led to their surprisingly early exit.

Kiwis look for consolation win

The Kiwis suffered a shock as they were ousted from the running for the Super 8 on the back of consequent losses to Afghanistan and hosts West Indies early in the tournament. NZ suffered a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan as they were bundled out by the Afghan unit for 75 runs in their chase of 160 in their opener, before going down to the Windies by 13 runs while chasing 150.

Their fate was effectively sealed with the two defeats as Afghanistan and West Indies continued to rack up points.

However, the Kane Williamson-led side managed to pick up their first points against Uganda in their third fixture with a 9-wicket win. The side from down under will look to close out their campaign on a positive note with a win over Papua New Guinea, who are yet winless in the tournament.
