Dadi also knows how strongly he feels for Imlie and that he will eventually melt and go back to her, hence, she did the whole drama to make him hate Imlie (she tried to harm Dadi) and promise him to marry someone else.

Why couldn't he get engaged and then borrow sometime. Why jump into the shaadi - fake, contract or real. Arghhhh. Agreed. Even I am not happy with the storyline. But I guess Imlie writers love giving absolutely unpredictable tracks. And most of the times its bad. They don't love doing cliche. I expected only engagement and no shadi. That way the girl would be there in the family and Agastya-Imlie would also have a barrier. But they went extra mile to show fake/contract shadi or whatever it is.
