Alia Bhatt surpassed both Mahesh Bhatt and Puja Bhatt. What an outstanding actress.

1 Hrithik puts Roshan in Rakesh Roshan

2 Allu Arjun, Ram Charan se jyada popular hai lekin usse Kam hits hai

3 Karan Johar, uska father se to bahut ache se sambhala hai Dharma ko, abhi Dharma Yrf se upar hai

4 Salman Khan - Usse bada stardom india me to kisika nahi hai

5 Alia Bhatt, abhi bhi Mahesh Bhatt ki daughter aur Kjo ke naam se hi famous hai, apne aap ko alag nahi kar payi hai lekin apne pati Ranbir se badi star hai, Shamshera ka opening Gangubai ka opening se kam tha

How many of these nepo kids would have survived the 80-90s time or even before? 😆

Oldgen built stardom despite limited outreach which anyday over cedes new generation stardom!

Some are easy to judge.

Aamir Khan, Kishore Kumar, Rekha, Ajay Devgan, Kajol (though she is Nuton’s niece), Vicky Kaushal, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Karishma Kapoor (comparing to their parents), Ananya Pandey (thanks to KJo) are all doing better than their relatives.

Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan, Aditya Chopra, are harder to judge. Talent is kind of subjective. And how do you compare today to a time where there was no internet, no paparazzi, no 24/7 media coverage of stars?

Then there’s Abhishek, Tushar Kapoor, Arbaaz and Sohail, Imran Khan, Sonam and Harsh (though he’s young enough and can still surprise us) who have obviously failed to reach their parents level. So has Janhvi for the most part but she has the potential to become a great dancer like her mom. I doubt she’ll ever have her mom’s fame.

I think I agree with your assessment.

They do. This is why they became producers and filmmakers if not actors and the whole family is powerful and well connected thanks to Salim Khan. Salim is also the most politically astute and well linked man of his family and the main reason why Salman gets away with his controversies, cases and brawls. Salman has achieved stardom on his own charisma but his dad's backing is a huge reason why he is where he is and bounced back despite flop patch and serious controversies against him and his bad relations with media.

Who is his dad connected to?

For people born after or during Salman’s debut , Salim Khan is known more as Salman Khan’s father than vice versa . After his split with Javed , he hasn’t done much notable work TBH

I am not doubting his stardom. I am only saying it is not right to say Salman surpassed his dad. Salim Javed literally changed face of Indian cinema and were kingmakers of their times.

Salman is a superstar but not an epoch making trendsetter like his dad was. Though it is also unfair to compare writer to actor as both are different fields.

Some of HR's biggest hits are with his pops directing him.

I meant as ACTORS. Not Rakesh as a filmmaker. Hrithik has never attempted filmmaking till date so no comparison there between him and his dad.

As actor, HR is far better than Rakesh ever was.

Disagree with Sunny Deol. He has succeeded but never attained superstardom as long lasting and as versatile, universally loved as his dad Dharmendra. Sunny is no match to Dharam in looks, charisma, hits spanning decades, versatility and fandom across generations. Sunny has good success but not of his dad's legend level.

Agreed. But older generation had advantage that they were only option available to audience at that time and audience had no TV, global content, internet, social media, video games and other gadgets and stuff to compete for and compare or contrast with. Nor had access to regional films and subtitled or dubbed content. Audience also demanded less of impossible physical standards for actors of past. This is why they made it without 6 pack abs or dance skills or martial arts skills or size zero figure.

In contrast any artiste of today has to deal with far more competition and has to work harder for attention of audience which finds even Insta reels and Tik Tok performers better than Bollywood stars and has shorter attention span, more options for entertainment and wants to spend less on entertainment, given how content is available online and less people want to go to theatres to see films unless film is exceptional or star is too popular.

Artistes of past had less competition and expectations to deal with and there was no social media or internet to target them or nitpick their films for political or religious reasons either. They could also do similar films and still give hits. For eg Govinda and David Dhawan comedies were similar. It is as if they made more or less similar stories year after year but they succeeded as audience was not comparing all time and previous film was forgotten as it was not aired soon on TV either. Manmohan Desai made similar films with AB, Shashi, Rishi etc but audience accepted it without comparisons to their previous films as there was no TV, internet then so they lapped up whatever that was there.

Today the audience does not accept same recycled story made with similar cast again and again. They would rather watch old romantic or action or message based films of SRK, Salman and Aamir online or on TV than see similar formula recreated by ageing actors again now.

Rather lot of older generation ones would also find it hars to survive in today's era of fickle audience and competing with national and global content for attention.
