My review:
Packaged like an entertaining Hindi film, CKA is much, much more. It's a step in the right direction for a certain section of the community which has been marginalized, and which hasn't found scope for representation in mainstream Hindi movies. But more than that, it's a movie with a big, big heart. It's actually very well-packaged, entertaining, and emotional. It's not preachy or didactic. It's a commercial movie with a strong message.
My only problem with the movie is it relies on simplistic plot twists to resolve the inherent conflict at the core of the story. The change of heart doesn't feel authentic on Ayushmann's character's part.
The performances are really good, and both Ayushmann and Vani sparkle with vulnerability and honesty. Vani especially is a treat to behold.
Overall, I think it's a must-watch.
