Yami Gautam: If 'Vicky Donor' can become a family movie; 'OMG 2' with 'sex-ed' as a theme can do the same

In a recent conversation with India Forums, Yami Gautam talked about the importance of sex education and how 'OMG 2' will highlight the issue in a non-sensationalizing and entertaining way.

Akshay Kumar's upcoming film 'OMG 2' has been making headlines lately due to its recent controversies with the Central Board of Certification (CBFC). The film, which was initially put on hold by the CBFC in July, has stirred debates on social media even before its official release.

The CBFC has reportedly demanded a total of 35 cuts in the film and has also requested changes in Akshay's character. Specifically, they have asked for his character to be depicted as a messenger of Lord Shiva instead of directly portraying the deity.

Today India Forums got in a conversation with Yami Gautam who will be seen essaying the role of a lawyer in the film. When questioned, " While sex education has been one of the subjects we have been talking about, it still remains a sensitive subject here so how does 'OMG 2' try to highlight that without hurting any sentiments and what is your take on the importance of sex-ed in a country like ours?"

She replied,

"The film will be the best spokesperson as to how we portrayed it. I believe and would like to believe that the kind of films that I am doing, people whom I am associated with, I will never do anything for the sake of sensationalizing or the sake of titillating the audience. Now that I have the opportunity and more choices, I am not saying every film of mine is going to be amazing, outstanding or done well, but the intention behind it, you'll be able to see it clearly."

She further added,

"I started my career with Vicky Donor and if I tell you today that there is a film 'Vicky Donor' on sperm donation, how would you feel, but the film became a family watcher and it became such an important film because of the writing and the intention was not to make someone frivolous. I feel formal sex education is something way more serious if nothing less than so many social topics we talk about and at the same time it's an entertaining film."

Further talking about it she added,

"Aapko picture dekh ke maza aana chaiye. It's not a documentary, its made for the masses, so we have tried to incorporate all the elements and in whatever realistic way we could, we have built the characters and again Akshay Kumar playing someone very very different, I am really looking forward to the audiences responses because it's a start of a new conversation, and go either way, but the intention is not bad."

'OMG 2' is a sequel to the 2012 film "OMG: Oh My God," which starred Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar. In the original film, Akshay portrayed the character of Lord Krishna.

Despite the controversies, 'OMG 2' is scheduled for release in theaters on August 11. Apart from Akshay Kumar, the film features Yami Gautam, Pankaj Tripathi, Arun Govil, Govind Namdev, Fahim Fazli, Kabir Sadanand, and others in significant roles. As the release date approaches, fans and moviegoers are eager to see how the film unfolds on the big screen.
