Tough times for makers of Pushpa 2 and Kalki 2898AD
The year 2024 has started off on a dull note for both Bollywood and Telugu films. Hanu-Man, Tillu Square, Naa Sami Ranga are the only ones that brought good returns. While Guntur Kaaram made over Rs 150 crores many felt it underperformed due to poor script. However, the industry has its hopes pinned on Kalki 2898AD, Pushpa2, Devara and Game Changer. In the past few weeks, quite a few cinema halls have been shut in the Telangana belt. This is because of the poor performance of films.
It is known that Andhra Pradesh has banned midnight shows and special preview shows since a few. Such shows are common in South India as ardent fans of top superstars’ throng for tickets.
Now, it is being said that even Telangana will not have special shows for upcoming films like Kalki 2898AD and Pushpa 2. However, the decision could be reversed. South portals have reported that exhibitors want a better cut from producers. There are talks of a revision in the existing commission system. Many films have tanked of late, and exhibitors have not even made minimum money.
Pushpa 2 has been sold to distributors at a whopping rate. It is being said that AAA Films have bought its theatrical rights for North India at whopping Rs 200 crores. It has already done business of above Rs 500 crores from sale of various rights. There are rumours that the budget of Pushpa 2 is similar to that of RRR, which was more than Rs 500 crores. Allu Arjun did not wish to spare any expense. On the other hand, Kalki 2898AD is high on VFX and special effects. It is being touted as India’s most expensive movie so far. With trade keeping a hawk eye on moves of the producers, we should get more clarity on this.
