Just as ‘Kalki 2898AD’ hit Netflix, a new controversy emerged that has got social media talking. Arshad Warsi who is known for his work in many Bollywood movies said Prabhas looked like a joker in Kalki 2898AD. He said he liked Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama but found Prabhas’ look like a joker. This infuriated some members of the Telugu industry. Ajay Bhupathi, Sudheer Babu, Nani and others have called out Arshad Warsi for his comment. The filmmaker Nag Ashwin did not react harshly. When the South Film Industry Vs Bollywood debate started again, he tried to calm people down. He posted on X, “Let's not go backwards….no more North-South or Bolly vs Tolly..eyes on the bigger picture…. United Indian Film Industry…..Arshad saab should have chosen his words better…..but it's ok….sending buji toys 4 his kids…I will work hard so tweets fdfs that Prabhas was the best ever in k2.”
It was a very mature response from his part but fans of Prabhas are very upset about the same. While the story of Kalki 2898AD got mixed reactions, everyone loved the awe-inspiring special effects of the movie. Now, an old interview of Arshad Warsi with Bollywood Spy has come on Reddit. When asked about the North Vs South debate, he says that all the servants in his house watch South movies. He said they are brainless entertainers just meant to pass time. Given how rich some Tamil and Malayalam movies are in content, netizens are damn upset. This video has come on Reddit. A person commented, “I sympathized with Arshad Warsi in Prabhas issue but it seems he deliberately insults Southern Industry! He talks as if Bollywood delivers Inception, Tenet level of movies! Maybe he is rage baiting for his 15 minutes of glory! What a fall.”
Others said that the tone of Arshad Warsi’s voice came across as very classist, of a person who feels his domestic help lack intelligence to watch South Indian movies. Other user said, “Looks like people don't want to be associated with liking the same thing as their house help or people who work in their homes do. Classism is quite evident by the title.”
Some netizens were shocked by his ignore. He said he does not even realise that there are four industries in the South and not just Tollywood. He said if these films were so brainless then why did Bollywood filmmakers do so many remakes of the same.
