I have been a silent reader of this FF, just wanted to say it’s an amazing read. I love how great it’s written and how all characters have depth. Great work!

Aahhh singhanias will be there in upcoming chapters when we see goenkas too but majorly this will be a fic surrounding abhimaan and mishbir only. Singhanias will appear as cameos during some crucial scenes but that's it.

Armaan will be going thru a lot of changes now cause his arc of breaking free from the poddars has finally kickstarted so I hope you're excited for that!

Chapter Twenty Nine

He would leave the firm, Armaan resolved. Maybe this was the push he finally needed to accept the job at Asha Kiran. He'd been dragging his feet for the past couple weeks, despite knowing he wanted that job. He didn't know what he was waiting for… Perhaps a sign, perhaps a miracle. What had happened at the dining table was the farthest thing from a miracle, but Armaan would take it as a sign. A sign to move on, to forge a different path and find his identity other than the one he'd been bestowed by this family.

If he wasn't at the firm anymore, there would be no more debate about the position. His resignation would force them to appoint someone new, whether it be Rohit or someone else, and frankly… That wasn't his problem at all. They would figure it out amongst themselves. After all, when he would no longer be an employee of Poddar & Associates, the affairs of the firm would have nothing to do with him.

And then, the wedding… He would talk to his parents about it. Maybe they would be able to knock some sense into their son. Maybe Rohit had good intentions for doing what he did, but Armaan didn't want a conditional acceptance like this. He knew Abhira wouldn't want it either. If they had to resort to blackmail to be heard, Armaan would have done it long ago. But, both him & Abhira wanted Kaveri to accept them of her own volition, not because someone was forcing her hand.

He knew that Kaveri would do anything to please Rohit, but he doubted she would do this. Her hatred for Abhira seemed to trump every other emotion she had. Plus, she was in it for the long haul. He knew that she would convince Rohit some way or the other. Giving in to his demands was the quickest way to get him to agree, but it wasn't the only way. He was sure that his grandmother was busy strategizing at the moment, trying to think of other ways to get her favourite grandson to do her bidding.

Determined, Armaan made his way to Madhav & Vidya's room, wanting to tell them about his decision to quit the firm, and also request them to help him with Rohit. As he neared, he overheard voices coming from the room and stopped short.

“Tune aisa kyun kiya, Rohit?” Vidya was asking. “Yeh sab karne ki kya zaroorat thi?”

“Vidya, yeh kaisa sawaal hai?” Madhav questioned. “Rohit apne bade bhai ki help karna chaahta hai toh usme bura kya hai? Hum sabko pata hai ki Maa Sa ko Abhira pasand nahi hai aur woh shaadi ke liye kabhi nahi maanengi. Lekin, agar Rohit ki yeh shart rakhne se humaare bete ka ghar bas jaata hai toh yeh achchi baat haina?”

“Lekin, agar Maa Sa nahi maani, aur Rohit ko firm mein position nahi di toh?” Vidya questioned.

Kya aisi tarakki chaahti ho tum Rohit ke liye?”

“Woh unka haq nahi hai!” Rohit exclaimed. “Aapne suna na Dadi Sa ne kya kaha? Woh hamesha se mera haq tha. Aur kisi ka nahi. Toh maine unse kuch nahi cheena hai.”

“Rohit, kaisi behki-behki baatein kar raha hai?” Madhav burst.

Kya tu ek baar bhi nahi kar sakta?

Ruhi ki bhi Armaan jitni hi galti thi. Usse toh tune jhat se maaf kar diya. Toh phir saari narazgi, saara gussa sirf Armaan pe kyun?”

“Madhav Ji, aap har baar iss tarah Armaan ki dhaal kyun bann jaate hain?” Vidya cried. “Rohit bhi toh aapka hi beta hai. Phir aapko kabhi uski itni chinta kyun nahi hoti jitni Armaan ki hoti hai? Isliye na… Kyunki Armaan uss aurat ka beta hai? Aap aaj bhi uss aurat se pyaar karte hain. Main aapko bilkul pasand nahi hoon, isliye mera beta bhi aapko pasand nahi hai!”

“Vidya!” Madhav thundered. “Zara sambhaal ke baat karo. Kahin aisa na ho ki kuch aisa bol baitho jiske liye zindagi bhar pachtaana pade!”

“Main kyun sambhloon? Maine kuch galat nahi kaha hai!” Vidya replied. “Sach toh yehi hai ki aapko mujhse zabardasti shaadi karni padi aur Maa Sa ki zidd ka badla aap aaj tak mujhse nikaal rahe hain. Aap ab bhi mujhe poori tarah apna nahi paaye hain kyunki aapke dil mein sirf uss aurat ke liye jagah hai. Aur sirf isliye hi, aapne hamesha se Armaan ko prefer kiya hai. Aapne hamesha Armaan aur Rohit mein se Armaan ko chuna hai.

Lekin, aap aisa mat sochiye ki mera beta akela hai! Agar aap Armaan ke saath hain, toh main bhi apne Rohit ka poora saath dungi.”

“Yeh jabse kya mera beta, tumhaara beta laga rakha hai? Armaan aur Rohit dono hi hum dono ke bete hain!” Madhav exclaimed.

“Nahi, Madhav Ji,” Vidya insisted. “Aaj Rohit ki achievement ko bhi aapne Armaan ke baare mein bana ke yeh saabit kar hi diya ki aap ke liye kaun zaroori hai. Shayad Maa Sa theek hi kehti hain. Khoon khoon hota hai. Aur main mere khoon ka saath dungi. Rohit ka saath dungi. Uske upar mere liye koi nahi hai. Na aap, na aapka beta, Armaan!”

Armaan stumbled at those words as if he had been physically assaulted. Maybe he had been. He didn't know. He didn't think anything existed apart from the despair he felt right in that moment. All of this world was just Armaan & his misery. He fell to his knees, unable to take the weight anymore. He was so tired. So, so, so tired. He'd always tried to be his mother's perfect son. But today, he found out that she didn't even consider him her own. All he was to her was her husband's son with another woman. That was all his identity was to her. He had tied his entire existence to her, had tied his acceptance in this house, this family to her. Everything he'd done had been for her.

He’d suspected. He'd always suspected, but even more so recently. Her actions had not been that of a loving mother, but he'd thought she still thought of him as a son, even if stepson. He thought they'd always share that relationship. And this is what she truly thought? If he wasn't her son, then who was he? Whose son was he? Who was his mother? Did he even have one anymore? As soon as he thought about his mother, only one face flashed in front of his eyes, one voice echoed in his ears, pulling him from the darkness, guiding him back into the light.

Agar hum tumhe beta kehte hain, toh sirf kehte hi nahi, maante bhi hain.

Tumse humaara dil ka rishta hai, aur woh sabse zyada important hota hai.

Meri god aur mera kandha hamesha tumhaare liye haazir hain.

I love you, Maani. I'm proud of you.

Armaan huffed, getting back to his feet. It took him a moment, but he somehow managed to do it. Sloppily, he stumbled down the stairs, only one destination in mind. He wasn't paying attention to where he was going and ran into the sofa, losing his balance and falling again. As he tried to stand back up, he was helped by a strong pair of arms. He didn't really know who had helped him. He didn't know what they were saying but he could make out faint voices that dripped in concern.

“Ba— bad— Badi Maa,” he managed to gasp out in between his shallow breaths, as the walls kept closing around him. “Badi Maa.”

The person said something again but Armaan didn't know what. He only knew he wanted to go home. He wanted to go to Badi Maa. That became his mantra and he kept mumbling her name over and over again. She would make it okay. She would run her fingers through his hair, she would let him sleep in her lap. She would tell him she loved him and would actually mean it. She would protect him from all the bad voices in his head. She would help him breathe. She would wipe his tears and kiss his scars. She would make all the hurt go away with her love. She would always be there to welcome him home.

He needed her. And he needed her now. She would hug him close to her heart and soothe all his wounds. He knew she would. “Badi Maa!” He wailed once again, calling out for her, wishing for her to appear in front of him like magic. Because that's what she was. She was magic. She had the magical power to make everything better.

And then, like magic, she was in front of him. “Maani,” she whispered gently, and through all the screeching and shouting in his head, he heard it. Someone was holding him, but it wasn't Badi Maa. He pushed them away and rushed forward. But, he stumbled. He was about to fall, but another pair of arms wrapped around him, holding him steady. Armaan breathed in the scent that he hadn't even realized he'd started equating with home… The scent of Mishti's favourite perfume. It was her. She'd caught him. She hadn't let him fall, just as he knew she wouldn't.

“Badi Maa!” He cried, hugging her with all his might, weeping into her shoulder. “Badi Maa!”

“I'm here, Maani,” Mishti assured him. “Main kahin nahi jaa rahi. Main hamesha hoon tumhaare paas.”

“Pro— promise?” Armaan asked.

“Promise,” Mishti vowed.

“Badi Maa… Mu… Mujhe… Saa… Saans na… Nahi aa… Rahi,” Armaan managed to gasp out. “Pl… Please!”

“Maani!” Mishti exclaimed. She tried to push him back to look at him, but he stubbornly tightened his arms around her, refusing to leave.

“Maani, please baby,” Mishti pleaded. “Mujhe tumhe dekhna hai. Please… Let me look at you. I want to see your beautiful eyes. Can you let me do that? Please, Maani.”

He would give her anything she wanted. Anything at all. As long as what she wanted was to not leave him alone, Armaan would carve his own beating heart out for her and not even flinch. He pulled out of her embrace, his arms limply falling to his side. Mishti reached up and cupped his face in her hands.

“I love you, Maani,” she promised. “I will always love you. Tumhe kisi cheez ki koi tension lene ki zaroorat nahi hai. Abhi tumhaari Badi Maa aur tumhaare Bade Papa hain. We'll make it go away. Jo bhi baat hai. Koi baat itni important nahi hai ki uske liye tum apne itne saare precious aansu waste kardo, samjhe?” She reached up and with utmost care, wiped his tears. And then, she began humming, that same melody she'd hummed to Abhira a few days ago in an effort to soothe her.

Armaan folded, crumpling to the floor, taking her with him. Mishti laid his head down on her chest and gently ran her fingers through his hair while her other hand traced soothing circles along his back. Slowly, she felt Armaan's breathing return to normal and his hold on her losen. When she felt his arms around her go slack, she looked down to see he'd fallen asleep. She turned to Abir, who was holding onto an anxious Abhira and gestured to Armaan. Abir gave her a reassuring nod and moved towards them, only for Abhira to use the momentum to rush forward, falling to her knees in front of Mishti & Armaan.

“Armaan,” she whispered softly, her heart breaking at the sight of him. She tentatively reached forward and ran her fingers along the smooth skin of his face, wiping his tears as he went. Armaan sniffled in his sleep, his hand reaching up to hold hers, as if even unconscious, he'd sensed her presence.

“Isse uthaate nahi hain,” Abir whispered. He looked up at Krish, Aryan, and Manoj, who had somehow managed to walk him from the Poddar Mansion to the Rajvansh Villa. “Let's take him to the room.”

Krish and Aryan looked extremely scared, yet they moved forward, intent on helping Abir, Manoj not far behind. Taking care not to jostle Armaan too much, they pried Mishti's arms away from him. Armaan immediately started whimpering at the loss of contact and Mishti hastily caught hold of his hand that wasn't locked with Abhira's. It was a difficult manoeuvre, but they managed to lift him up enough to carry him to one of the guest rooms on the ground floor. Once they'd placed him on the bed, Abir tucked him in - removing his shoes and socks, unfastening his watch, and opening up the top two buttons of his shirt. Then he swaddled Armaan in a blanket. Once he was satisfied, Abir reached up and placed a gentle kiss on Armaan's forehead. “Sleep well, mere bachche,” he whispered. “Hum sab yahin hain… Tumhaare paas, tumhaare saath.”

Silently, the entire family found various places inside the room, standing vigil as Armaan slept. Mishti sat on her bed beside him, constantly running her fingers through his hair, while Abhira sat at the foot of the bed, looking at Armaan unblinking. Raj sat beside her, wrapping Abhira in a warm embrace. Abir found a spot on the floor, resting his head against Armaan's. Even Krish, Aryan, and Manoj stayed behind, watching over him. Krish texted Charu, and a few minutes later, she rushed inside the room with Kiara and Manisha, who also crammed themselves in the small space.

Armaan turned in his sleep, seeking Mishti's warmth, snuggling into her stomach, completely unaware of all the people who loved him enough to sacrifice their own sleep, just to make sure he slept peacefully. His step mother might not love him the way he deserved, but Armaan had a plethora of people who did, and always would.

What an amazing update.. you have shown pain of arman in this update. VV just pretends to love Arman, but she clearly doesn't want to give him anything over her own son. Finally Arman got to know about her true face. Rohit is also being selfish here. I always thought, why Arman is sautela for everyone. Only two person in the family are his step family. But everyone behaves as if he is the outsider. Just loved it that atleast in this ff he has people with him... Loved it 😍😍😍
