Part 73

There was quite some time before dinner, and everyone agreed to play a few rounds of poker to pass the time.

Geet didn't know the rules well. She decided to stay by Maan's side and quietly observe.

To avoid things getting serious, everyone played with coins and pennies... even if someone wins a poor, they couldn't afford to buy a full meal from the winnings.

Geet shifted her chair close to Maan so she could have a look at his cards. Maan tilted his hand towards her to see.

M- No matter what card you get. Don't show any reaction on your face.

G - Poker face! Got it!

Maan leaned towards Geet and explained the rules and tricks to her while speaking softly.

After Maan folded his cards early in a game, Geet asked him why he did so.

Maan turned his face and whispered to Geet his friends 'tell'.

M - He will always scratch his right ear if he gets a good hand.

G - so you know everyone's tell?

M – umhmm

All his friends could see that Maan didn't really concentrate on the game. He was too focused on his wife. Maybe today they will finally have an upper hand against Maan.

When Maan got a particularly good hand he started to slowly raise bets. Mid-way through the round Geet grabbed his free hand and dragged it under the table.

M - ??????????????????????

Maan coughed and blinked his eyes even clenched his fist.

Yup it's his hand.

Geet intertwined their fingers and firmly held on his hand. Not letting it escape.

She leaned even closer to Maan, their shoulders overlapping and whispered into his ear.

G - You tap your fingers. It's your tell.

M - oh....

Maan flexed his fingers and firmly held back Geet's hand.

M – Thanks. No wonder I never win.

He lied smoothly.

He began tapping his fingers only because Geet started leaning closer to him after each round and he got a bit nervous.

Usually, he never cared about winning and losing in poker, so he never showed any signs.

Geet maintained an outward calm demeanor, but internally she was quite excited.

Whenever Maan won some money or made a good decision to fold, her enthusiasm was easily conveyed to Maan through their interlinked fingers.

So Maan played a bit more seriously to make her happy.

After a couple of rounds one of the friends straight out complained after throwing down his cards.

F1 - Bloody hell Maan!! Will you stop showing off to Geet? Even we have partners we want to impress!

F2 - Yeah!! As if the secret hand holding and whispering isn't enough!! You have to win too.

F3 - What about us single people? This is just torture! You better lose next round properly or we will tell all your old incidents to Geet.

Even after all the friendly ribbing Maan didn't let go of her hand.

Geet covered her face with her free hand and laughed bashfully.

M - You guys... Jealousy is not a nice look... Tch tch tch... Instead of improving yourself, you are asking me to lower my standards.

Maan successfully riled up his friends and soon everyone forgot about the game.

Instead, they started recounting all embarrassing incidents from their college days.

Geet leaned against Maan and rested her head on his shoulder while listening to all the wild and silly incidents.

She laughed and joined in the teasing, contributing incidents from her own life.

The laughter and jokes continued throughout the dinner.

Later everyone sat back and relaxed to the sound of background music and ocean waves.

Few people left to take care of their kids.

A few people started up some other game.

Some just relaxed and chatted around.

Maan put his arm around Geet and played with her hair absently, while talking to his friends.

Geet closed her eyes and relaxed against Maan, listening to his voice. Feeling the slight rise and fall of her breath.

Geet had to agree with Maan's earlier words.

She didn't hate the dinner. On the contrary she liked it a lot. She got to know so much about Maan.

Later in the night Maan picked up super-sleepy Geet in a princess carry to take her to their room.

Meanwhile his friends whistled and teased him from behind. They never thought Maan could be such a considerate romantic guy.

He'd rather carry his wife all the way to their room. Instead of simply waking her up.

Maan ignored the teasing and carried Geet all the way.

He tucked her into bed and helped take off her sandals

He brushed away a few stray hair strands away from her face, wishing her goodnight in a low voice.

The next day Maan and Geet woke up in a relaxed mood and spent the day lazily roaming around, casually trying out different games and activities at the resort.

By late afternoon they packed up and left the resort to go back home.

There were still quite a lot of people who wanted to use the last day to cozy up to Maan or try to create problems between Maan and Geet. But it didn't have much effect.

Geet thoroughly ignored them and Maan silently noted down names in his little black book.

After coming back, Maan dropped Geet at her place and then returned to his place.

He could rest for one night and then started going through the pile of backlogged work.

On top of it all his little back grudge notebook was full of names. He needs to take care of them too one by one.

On the night Geet came back there were a few scandalous articles about her attending some fancy/posh retreat with a mysterious rich guy on the social media.

But these posts vanished almost immediately, before many people could read it.

Geet thought she would be getting a call from her agent or from her management agency about these articles.

But no one called her and by next day it was like those news articles had ever existed at all.

Plus, there was much more exciting news grabbing everyone's attention.

Some big named xx companies were raided under tax invasion charges and the leaders of the company were also cornered by the authorities.

Geet felt that the name was familiar. But she couldn't really remember. She was just thankful to the tax bureau for taking attention faaaaaar away from her.

Over the next 2 weeks there would be often news of yyy or zzz company being raided by some tax or environmental or labor rights bureaus.

On social media and news everyone actively discussed if these govt agencies had hired a master, super-duper corporate spy who knew everyone's secrets and hidden skeletons.

Since such cases kept increasing, Geet naturally worried about Maan as well.

She called him one night and felt that he sounded really tired.

G - Is everything okay at your office? With all these recent raids going on?

M - mhmm. Things are fine here. We don't have any big defaulting issues.

G - Good good. But you should still be cautious. Someone can try to frame you at this time.

M - frame.... ME?

G - Yes! With so many offices being ceased and temporarily sealed shut. What if someone wants to harm you and makes up false reports and evidence? Even if you get things cleared wouldn't you face unnecessary loss and harm?

Maan smiles at Geet's concerns.

Other than the higher management in his company, she is the only one who called him and showed genuine concern.

M - Don't worry. I have taken precautions and upgraded security measures. So, what do _you_ think about all these explosive news stories?

G - I think the government is finally doing some honestly good job, instead of accepting bribes and letting criminals go with just a slap on the wrist.

M - oh... Is that all?

G - What else?... I don't think all this will affect my shooting plans...

M - Are you happy about the people who are getting fined and audited and jailed?

G - .... I guess I am happy that justice is served.

Maan sighs....

Here he has been toiling night and day and over there someone doesn't even care!!

Thanks for the lovely update. Learning about Maan behind all this scam, Geet reaction would be fun. Husband is clearing all the mess for his wife. Can't wait when they announce their relationship to media.

The care between Maan and Geet is so evident to everyone

Maan ensuring all that had troubled his wifey will face issues in their companies

and their was tax invasion involved

but the cutest was Geet calling Maan about his company , surely he could feel

her concern and care for him

Finalky geet enjoying maans friends company no one is bothering g her and she is totally enjoying herself she is also getting comfortable with Maan

And so is he from the looks of it

Poor guy doing his best to take care of all the people who bothered geet and she is totally unaware who they are and what Maan is doing

He has no idea that she is clueless to me hat he has done
