Save my Seoul

A one hr documentary about rampant but hidden prostitution in South Korea.

Mostly filmed using hidden cameras, pen cameras in Miari (but they say Biani as Koreans do), SK's red light area

"Koreans are very hypocritical about sex. In public they act proper and ethical, as if they don't know or care about sex, but in private or at certain places at night they become totally different people" says one person (but doesn't that apply to most conservative societies?)

1 in 5 men in their 20s admit to paying for sex atleast 4 times a month. But the no is higher says one guy. It might be 8 out of 10 guys of all ages

"In Korea, prostitution is really a part of the culture. Older brothers will take you to a brothel or a room salon to help you lose your virginity. It's considered a rite of passage" (What? Is that true?)

It's a little slow and bleak, it shows very young girls from dysfunctional families somehow ending up in the trade and although technically they're free to leave anytime they want, how the pimps make them their slave, after yrs of working some have zero money but it also tries to offer hope and ends on a positive note

One interesting tidbit:

Sex Trade also helped rebuild the country. After the 1960s war, economy was in shambles, there was no industries. They needed to bring in dollars

So the Gov. exempted certain brothels near the U.S. military bases from the anti-prostitution law, in return these businesses had to pay their taxes in dollars. During the 1960s prostitution made up atleast 25% of Korea's GNP.

Sarfira:

Story was really good. First half hour a bit slow but later on pick up. We can feel the frustration of Vir (Akshay). It is based on true story of Deccan Air. Powerful people will go to any length to prevent others from achieving success if they feel they are threat to their financials. What an achievement of the real person Mr.Gopinath who achieved it.

Radhika Madan what a wonderful actress. Brilliant acting. She was totally into the character.

Most annoying thing was too many ads. Disney hotstar needs to go back to its early glory.
