Firstly...Apsara was born a boy...not transgender...the sex change happened after college...just putting facts as they are.

Secondly ...I got Apsara in the picture because you compared gender changer to fairness cream...extremely ridiculous one.

Thirdly, you jumped from a purported racism issue to feminism issue by comparing the ads on 2 separate issue

Fourthly, by doing the above you were slaying ads in general.

Now read my reply again...hopefully you will understand the context.

Read my post. It's not made up, that's what happened to two of my cousin sisters. That's the reason I am so sensitive about the topic. I lost my beloved sister who I was very close with. I still miss her.

More Examples:

First thing first...Sorry to hear about your loss...my sympathies with you there.

OTT - Let me clarify...I was replying to Amy ...I didnt say the issue is made up (you assumed) ...I said I haven't heard about it...I even mentioned I will take Amy's word for it...so lets not digress from the core point since we all agreed on the ghastly incident/act

Since you have jumped in voluntarily ...care to answer the question I asked above.

Copy/Pasted below for you convenience

Now tell me how
  • The fairness cream is responsible for the above act
  • The fairness cream companies are responsible for the above act.
  • The celebrities are responsible for the above act
  • Abhay's post is going to change things

kaun hai wo jo isko beautiful bolta hai 😡

Baby ko Bass pasand hai aur ...Mado ko Babes pasand hai

With or without make up ...mujhe sari heroine beautiful lagti hai (doesnt mean I like them)...even Sonam (giving her a special mention)

Isiliye humesa gata rehta hoon...Ladki beautiful kar gayi chull

P.S - though Chull is a slang with multiple meaning.. ...from the sound of it ... seems so much like like "Peed in Pants" ...infact was checking out the floor where Alia was dancing in the song... to see if it was wet...then realised it wouldnt be ...because there was an extra ( @Fawad ) in the film who possibly was given the job to clean the floor with a pocha.

Sahi Pakde hain!!

Rona Kabhi nahi Rona
Chahe chala jaye
Pak mein Khilona.

Khanu Jaan, Mado ka Aadap kabuul karo

Btw Aam ka season aya hai...khaya ki nahi...iss baar quality bahut kharaab hai...saade huwe aur chuse huwe zyada nikal rahe hai...only worthy of place in garbage.

Iss baar ke Aam dekh kar mujhe Signal pe khade bhikariyon ki yaad aati hai ...bilkul ho ba ho replica ...just imagine , if they had frog like eyes...disney would have used them as ugly alien monsters.

@bold Good that you are completely aware of it now.
  • The fairness cream is responsible for the above act
  • The fairness cream companies are responsible for the above act.
It's not the fairness cream, but the ads which need to be blamed. You can't refute the fact that ads are powerful media to influence the consumers. Why would you use toothpaste instead of datoon or soap instead of multani mitti/besan. Even government uses this media to spread awareness about education, health, sanitation, etc.

Also the propaganda they are spreading that Fair is superior/dark is ugly is wrong, unethecial and illegal.

According to Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) "No advertisement should communicate any discrimination or reinforce negative social stereotyping on the basis of skin colour,"

They have even recently banned one of the fairness cream ad showing dark is inferior(Emami Fair and Handsome).

You can read the guidelines set by the Council here:
http://www.firstpost.com/brands-business/dont-discriminate-on-skin-colour-asci-lays-down-law-for-fairness-creams-ads-1985125.html

Why are these steps taken, if the subjects are not guilty?

  • The celebrities are responsible for the above act

Celebrities plays a very impactful & influencial role in Indian society. Hence they are signed even by government to spread awareness like Swacha Bharat, Polio, etc. They take a huge sum and endorse such regressive notion, don't expect them to be spared. Don't worry the ASCI has warned them too.

  • Abhay's post is going to change things
It may not make a drastic change but it did provoke discussion. Now people are talking about it. You and me are discussing about it. Sonam Kapoor has accepted she was wrong and won't endorse it in future. There's a win. Also Rome wasn't built in one day.

Blue Underlined - if you think the advertisement led to incident...there is no point discussing...no sense at all...you are externalising the issue.

Red Underlines - I have been reading blogs, News articles , FB Post & Tweets on this issue for close to a decade...nothing has changed on the ground...it just noise.

The only once who have made a difference are ...responsible citizens bwho filed law suits against the ads and got them removed.

@bold And still you were not aware of the lost life coz of this? Strange.

There is a campaign by Nandita Das called " Dark is Beautiful" who were instrumental in ASCI setting guidelines for fairness cream ad. Thus making it possible for the responsible citizen to file law suit against the ad.

Don't you know about it? Weren't you reading blogs, news articles, etc for a decade.

@bold red
You are not getting the point at all.
I will give you all the facts, reasoning, examples but still you won't accept the fact that celebrities/ ads(TV, newsprint, hoardings) have powerful influence on people's mind. Don't wanna waste my time. Ciao!
