What gets me bothered too is when actors defend the crap by saying "show ko show ki tarah he dekhian", as in do not crib about the abuse or wrong messages being sent.

No matter what, entertainment influences societal mores, creates acceptability (both good and bad)

you know, if the story was really out there, as in so extreme that there was no element of relatability, then one can suspend disbelief and watch the show as just a show

But shows like tmd dont fall into that category.

They have imprinted upon audience every week that a DIL or a wife (especially one from poor family) will never ever be part of the family. Every day, day after day, she has to prove she merits a place in the family. Every day she has put up with all kin9ds of abuse from every darn member of the family

The day her own human frailties get exposed, she gets tossed away, or is subjected to severe punishment

Show ko show ki tarah dekho might work if your audience is not impressionable. Actors should just say we are here to earn money and this is the best work we are getting so we will do it. Instead of explain how their characters perspective is right.

Ghums audience is still tolerably ok , they did not defend slap..but here audience genuinely thinks hero forcing a woman and never repenting is a good guy; when the hero did not let wife work which is legally a crime, comments were like Sahiba isn't prioritizing her in laws. So for this kind of audience who already defends all sort of abuse by the male lead , to show more abuse is just open invitation for nasty questions like why did the woman tolerate? And this is not just Sahiba, every single female character that was victim of abuse was treated by audience in this way. On top of that there are million excuses for why Angad defended Seerat , slapped, harassed Sahiba but suddenly everyone is surprised why Sahiba is tolerating harassment as if it is not clearly explained in show.

I dont know if the trps of the show tmd copied post leap, increased with the intro of a parallel male lead

Regardless, I personally feel, given Sahiba's fearless independent nature, aur duniya se larne ki qabliyat, the post leap sahiba was not the same as pre leap Sahiba kaur monga.

Why would Sahiba go with a strange man right after Angad rejected her? Why not go to the gurudwara or back to her parents house? or even seek help from her college professors.

Leave aside Diljit and his characterization. It is Sahiba core qualities - her fearlessness and self-confidence - that did not make sense at all.

Second issue was the whole living with the man and yet not living with the man. Sahiba Kaur Monga would never have countenanced such a situation. If she really did need to live with Diljit and his family, she would have gone down the sister/cousin route. As I am typing this, voice of her father is ringing in my ears "Sahiba aisa kabhi nahi kar sakti"

The writers know exactly what they're doing. They have a clear understanding of what triggers the audience.

They intentionally include elements like marital rape, physical abuse, mental abuse, slapping, and throwing someone out, followed by brief moments of sweet talk before reverting to abusive and toxic behavior for many episodes.

They manipulate the content to keep the audience engaged, despite the harmful story.

The audience's blind support only encourages this cycle.
