This is my first attempt at any type of fiction. I have completed a major work last week and was relaxing. I suddenly realised that I have a muse and she gave me a peek into the mind of Aham Modi. You see below what I saw and let me know what you all think about this Aham.
Aham Modi Falls in Love
Part 1
Aham was waiting for Gopi leaning on his car. He was feeling very agitated, annoyed, irritated and angry. Mainly he was feeling defeated. He felt that he lost to Gopi. He was thinking, "I, Aham Modi of Modi Industries, educated in some of the best institutions and rubbing shoulders everyday with big business giants, lost to a slip of a girl, an uneducated nobody who cannot even talk in full sentences. Where is she anyway? Why is she taking such a long time? Oh God! how long should I wait in this godforsaken place? What is this? Is my watch slow? Is it only 5 min since I came down? God! why these people are staring at me? Let me wear my coolers! Oh! there she is and she looks good! why cant she wear that green sari? What? What am I thinking? There is something in the air here! I am going crazy! Oh! fantastic! her Mama and Dhawal are also coming down with her. Her Mami is not with them. Thank god for small mercies! I hope they don't talk to me. Better let me get in the car. I hope that she wont take long to say her goodbyes! Why would she? She must be eager to get her talons back into the Modi Bhavan. Excellent! I avoided her Mama and that fool, Dhawal and he is our Jamai! I hope that this is all a dream and I get up from this. She smells nice too! Aham Modi! get a grip. This is Gopi! Finally! I can leave this place!" He started the car and left for Modi Mansion.
When he rang the door bell, Gopi caught up with him and stood next to him. He was even more irritated. After a few secs of waiting, which appeared as few hours to him, the door opened and he saw the shocked face of Rashi, followed by his mother, Mani, Hetal Kaki and Nani. He looked at his mother, tried to keep staring at her, but could not meet her eyes for long and looked down. He glanced at Gopi from the side and saw the confusion in her face. The mixture of happiness and uncertainty simultaneously disturbed him and reminded him of his defeat. He just started walking in and Nani asked, "Now! who is this girl?". He didn't bother to answer and was sure that his mom will take care. His job was to bring her back so that Nani will eat and he has done that. He is tired of his female relatives and their emotional blackmail. His mother introduced Gopi as his wife and he grimaced. He saw Gopi taking her blessing from Nani and felt, great! Gopi's talons have another victim. Tomorrow, his Nani will start singing Gopi's praises! Nani then asked, "why do you have such a big bag? were you planning to stay permanently at your mother's home?". Everybody was stunned and did not know what to answer. Kokila glared at Aham. Aham was irritated again and was thinking why should he answer. He heard Gopi mumbling something with her usual "Ji! woh! ji .." nonsense. His Nani, got distracted and started asking something about Rashi to her. He felt that for the first time Gopi's "ji woh" worked for him. He went up to get his suitcase to start for office. His Chirag Kaka had left already and he had told Kaka that he will be in office before the 10.30 meeting and it was already 10. He had to go through some notes before the meeting and thought that may be should ask Raju to drive him today. His stomach was grumbling and was thinking how long before Mom asks Gopi to make food for him. The chutney in the morning was horrible. He was actually thankful that Gopi is back and at least he will be getting good lunch. Goodness! he thought. Back at Gopi! That girl is like a virus, keeps corrupting his thoughts.
The meeting was over and they were successful in convincing the other people to do business with the Modis. But Aham felt a subtle difference in the air. His Kaka was trying to instruct him more than necessary though not a very obvious way. The others still would not have found out, but Aham felt it. He was not very comfortable and was thinking if he should talk to Kaka. Then, he decided not to talk but to wait and watch, as he has been doing recently. All these put him in a confused state of mind. Then came lunch time and as usual, he started guessing what is for lunch. He used to do this in school and had a bet with Jigar everyday. They both would try to extract information from their mothers and everyday lunch used to be fun. He was thinking if he should start that with Jigar. He saved the report he was editing and went to the lunch room. Jigar was already there which was not a surprise and Kaka came in just after him. Jigar opened the boxes and Kaka said "Wow! smells good!" and took a bite of the food. He exclaimed "Rashi made this lunch? I cant believe it! It tastes so good! I am sure it is Gopi's cooking!". Jigar too tasted and joined his praises, "Yes Papa! this is surely Bhabi's cooking. Rashi can never cook like this." He proceeded to ask Aham, "why Bhai? did you bring Bhabi back to make you lunch? It looks like even the mighty Aham Modi's heart is reached through his stomach." and winked at his father. Both of them smirked at Aham and started loading their plates. Aham was very hungry and irritated. He glared at Jigar and started to say something. But, the lunch was smelling really good and he badly wanted to eat because he missed his breakfast too. He was about to fill his plate and heard Jigar's chuckle. He really wanted to smash the plate on Jigar's face. But then realised that he was being very petty to him and told himself to take a deep breath, suck it up and have lunch. It smelt too delicious to be ignored for something as silly as Jigar's tease. He filled his plate, turned back to Kaka and told him "Yes Kaka! I brought Gopi back as Nani refused to eat without meeting her. I don't want to talk about this right now." Luckily, Aham's phone dinged sounding the arrival of an email. He thought "saved by the bell" and started reading the email. Jigar and Kaka understood the diversion tactic and decided that it was enough for the day and that they can tease him later.
He was not sure if he wanted to go home early or late. Part of him wanted to go home and see what is happening at home. Another part wanted to avoid his mother as he was sure that she will be waiting to sing the praises of Gopi and advise him to live with her. But what will Gopi do? May be there will be something nice for dinner now that she is back! May be kheer? Oh dear Lord! Gopi should never know that he misses her cooking. Else she will use this to cling to him. Never! he will never allow that.
He anyway left early as his Kaka wanted to go home early since it was the first day of Nani's visit and it would not be respectful to stay away from home. Aham was again lost in his thoughts, first day! how many more days Nani will be here? how long will this drama continue. He heard Jigar call, "What Bhai! Already thinking about dinner made by Bhabi?" and his Kaka's chuckles. Aham glared at Jigar and got into the car.
He went home and went to his room, the old one. He saw that Gopi's stuff were there and found her sindoor box on the dressing table. He felt strange looking at her stuff. He thought it was because he was not comfortable with her in his room. Then he suddenly realised what it meant and went marching to his mom's room to complain to her. When he reached near her room and he heard his mom and Kaki talking. Kaki was asking his mom, "Kokila! Did you ask Aham to bring Gopi? What will happen now? Will Gopi be staying here or will she leave after Maasi leaves?". Aham thought, "of course she will leave. What kind of question is this? Why would I want to live with that stupid girl?". He took another step and heard his mom voice. She told "Mota Bhabi! I didn't specifically ask Aham to bring Gopi. I told him to bring her or explain to Maa why she was not here and face the consequences. Aham made the decision to bring her back. And so I don't how he can send Gopi back this time? I am not going to help him this time. I too want Aham to realise Gopi's worth and live happily with her. I hope he understands that I always want his happiness." Aham was shocked listening to this. What did his mother mean by Gopi cannot be sent back? He didn't want her permanently. It was just till Nani was here. He cant send back Gopi? What would he do? Is he again going to lose to Gopi? No! He will somehow get himself and the Modis out of the clutches of Gopi! Never will he allow somebody like Gopi to control his life! He started walking to his room having completely forgotten why he came to his mom's room.

Looks like nobody taught Aham never to say never! What will he do next? Wait till my muse decides to cooperate! Hint : My muse likes some nice treats like ice cream sundaes and chocolate cakes. 😆
