Isn't this basically "influencer marketing" in a nutshell. Brands pay celebrities to post in their favor on social media. It may be unethical and problematic considering their influence. But it is hardly illegal unless there is a proven conflict of interest or promotion of dangerous/life-threatening propaganda.
Also, some of these celebrities are hardly major players or influences. I'd take money to tweet about anything (so long as I don't morally disagree with it).
There's a sucker born every minute. Caveat Emptor.
