Maria Goretti, wife of actor Arshad Warsi, has another quotient that makes the season extra special. "Arshad will be home," she smiles, her eyes lighting up her dimpled face. "It's been almost 10 months since I saw him as he's been busy with film shootings and we (referring to her four-year-old son Zeke and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Zene) are thrilled to have him around. You can say Christmas brings us together."
What warms her heart is being with her parents and family at the midnight mass on the 24th. "But I feel really bad about the timing," she explains, pausing to sip on her morning coffee. "It was so exciting to attend it at midnight, then my mother would rush us home saying Santa was waiting with the gifts. I wish it's as magical for Zeke and Zene too."
The tradition each year is for her to make a special dinner. "I'm East Indian, so there will be the typical feast – Roast Chicken, Mutton Moel, Vindaloo and Sugiyal, assisted by my mother's bottle masala," she says. Arshad is fond of whatever she prepares.
With Arshad away most of the time, things musn't be too easy one hints. "Well, I have to play mum and dad most of the time. I'm happy that Arshad's working so hard, but I also feel so alone at times. You know, towards the start of December, we started counting the days as we knew he was coming home."
What's also got Maria excited is that she might start working again. "At the end of the day I want something on my plate and since Arshad is very supportive, so who knows? That could be my New Year resolution," she smiles.
