Dharma Productions has been in the news of late with reports coming in that Saregama India will be buying stakes of Karan Johar’s company. They would hold the majority stake in the firm. Now, there is buzz that Karan Johar is also in talks with other industry giants to sell stakes of the big Bollywood production company. As per reports in Economic Times, they are negotiating with Reliance Industries (RIL) to acquire a stake in Dharma Productions though the sum is not disclosed so far.

The report said that Karan Johar has been in talks to sell his share of Dharma holdings for a long time now. But the matter is taking longer than expected. They have been disputes about the valuation. Around 90.7 per cent of shares in Dharma are with Karan Johar, while his mom, Hiroo Johar owns 9.24 per cent. Reliance Industries has shareholdings of Colosseum Media, Viacom18 Studios, and Jio Studios. They have been investing a lot in the entertainment sector.

The past two years have not been great for the production house. Good Newwz in 2019 was the last big hit movie from them. In 2023, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani did more than average business. Other movies like Bad Newwz, Yodha, Mr and Mrs Mahi, Jug Jug Jeeyo were not big successes. Even Jigra has got lacklustre numbers at the box office. Call Me Bae on Amazon Prime Video has got a good response. It will be renewed for a new season. The third season of Bollywood Wives Vs. Fabulous Lives is coming on Netflix on October 18, 2024.
