Bollywood legends Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor passed away recently leaving the industry reeling in shock. The New York Indian Film Festival will be playing tributes to the duo.
Sridevi passed away in Dubai on February 24, 2018, after accidentally drowning in a bathtub. Sridevi is survived by Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor and husband Boney Kapoor. Shashi Kapoor breathed his last in December 2017.
The organisers in a statement revealed that Kapoor's movie Shakespeare Wallah and Heat and Dust will be screened at the festival. On the other hand, Sridevi's 2012 hit English Vinglish will be screened too.
The festival will open on May 7 with Marathi movie Nude and for the closing ceremony, Rajkummar Rao's "Omerta" will be screened.
"New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) is known around the world for its top-notch, out-of-the-box programming, and this year is no different. The New York audience is sophisticated, well-travelled, educated and discerning; as such, our content reflects what we think will resonate with the cinephiles of this cosmopolitan city and will keep them coming back for more," said founder Aroon Shivdasani in a statement to a leading news agency.
Meanwhile, Kapoor was India's first actor to go international and work in English movies. Some of his best performances include films like Mehndi Lagi Mere Haath, Kabhi Kabhie, New Delhi Times, Roti Kapda Aur Makan, Heeralal Pannalal, Deewar, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Raja Saab, Pighalta Aasman and many others.
