Without a doubt, Bollywood actors have to struggle their way to the top. However, apart from dealing with problems like lack of work and at times the social stigma around dusky complexion could mean a massive setback. Actor Chitrangda Singh in a recent interaction spoke about the discrimination that she has faced because of her complexion.
In an interview with Bombay Times, Chitrangda revealed that she not only faced biases growing up, but also professionally, as she lost out on modeling assignments. For the unversed, the actress shared an Instagram story wherein she said she was ‘brown and happy’.
I know the feeling of living life as a girl with a dusky complexion. This is not something that people will say directly to your face. You can only sense it. I have been through the biases, especially while growing up in the north.

Speaking about the existence of prejudices based on skin color, Singh said ‘not everybody goes out looking for white-skinned people’.
Talking about losing work because of her skin color Chitrangda said, “I did lose out on modeling assignments. In fact, when I lost out on one ad in the initial days of my career, I was specifically told the reason as it had come down to selecting between two people for the part. Luckily, the audition that I did for a product was seen by Gulzar saab, who got me on board for his music video. I realized that not everybody goes out looking for white-skinned people here.”
On the work front, Chitrangda who was last seen in Bazaar; produced Soorma, and had been shooting for her next Bob Biswas before the lockdown was announced.
