Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty are one of those co-stars who has entertained the audience on-screen with their every film together. However, we would call them as the only co-stars to match up the level of comedy each time and make our stomach tickle with their punch lines.
The duo started with the film, "Waqt Hamara Hai" in 1993 and since then they have featured in 13 films together as the lead. However, one has never heard about any differences between them in all these years and still, the bond looks the same.
Today Akshay Kumar took to his social media to share a picture with his close friend and co-actor Sunil Shetty and captioned it as "This is not a throwback but takes me back to so many. As always was lovely catching up with one of my oldest friend and co-star @suniel.shetty today :)" (Sic).
Have a look at their collaboration in films till now:-
Waqt Hamara Hai - 1993
Hum Hai Bemisal - 1994
Mohra - 1994
Sapoot - 1996
Dhadkan - 2000
Hera Pheri - 2000
Jaani Dushman - 2002
Awara Paagal Deewana - 2002
Phir Hera Pheri - 2006
Aan: Men at Work - 2004
Deewane Huye Paagal - 2005
De Dana Dan - 2009
Thank You - 2011
The last they shared the screen space was in Thank You in 2011 which was a multi-starrer film amongst many other actors including in it. However, the duo was supposed to star once again together in the famous franchise of Hera Pheri with its third instalment along with the actor Paresh Rawal.
After a long delay, production of Hera Pheri 3 was supposed to begin in 2014. Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal were said to reprise their roles from previous films as Raju, Shyam and Baburao respectively.
When the film was announced, Rawal and Kumar elected not to reprise their roles as Baburao and Raju, respectively and were replaced by John Abraham, Nana Patekar and Abhishek Bachchan. At one point, the film had been cancelled entirely, but shooting had eventually begun in 2014. In May 2016, both Abraham and Bachchan left, the latter's departure being particularly acrimonious. Shortly after Bachchan's departure, Kumar returned, reuniting the original trio. In addition to the departures of the two actors, Shetty had briefly left the production, citing the unprofessional atmosphere, and director Neeraj Vora was replaced by Ahmed Khan.
On October 2016, Vora suffered a massive stroke and was in a coma, throwing the film's future in doubt.
On 18th May 2017, Sunil Shetty confirmed that the production for the movie will continue as soon as Neeraj Vora is declared fit. However, till then it was still unclear if Ahmed Khan would be a part of Hera Pheri 3. Akshay Kumar was also said to reprise his role and the film was expected to go on floors in 2018 but, unfortunately, on December 14, Neeraj Vora passed away. After the untimely death of the director, the future of this film became uncertain once again.
Well, it will be a massive comeback of the duo if they are seen once again on screen.
