Did Aditya and his wife patch up after that ?or is it Rani called as a home wrecker because adi was not separated from his wife legally?

Seriously….We really need to stop calling women “home wreckers”…… you think the husband was some innocent kid that got tricked or brainwashed ?

Maybe for South Indian films it was considered lavish, but as someone used to Bhansali, it felt like the VFX was not the best. I remember on Reddit, many people were criticizing the trailer because everything seemed smaller in scale than expected. Much criticism was also that the hair and makeup was influenced by North Indian fashions and not historically accurate. Reddit was complaining that the costumes and looks seemed closer to Jodha Akbar.

I have not seen many South films so PS is one of the few looks I have had into their industry. Script-wise, wasn't it heavily praised especially for being accurate to the novel?

Bhansali has gotten that criticism lately, especially with his last few films, that everything looks beautiful and he has stunning actors but the writing is not the best. I've noticed that especially with Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Both were good films to look at but story-wise, I would not be interested in rewatching them. The songs have more repeat value than the actual films.

Gloss over substance seems to be a typical complaint leveled against Bollywood vs South films. I'm thinking of Sairat which was heavily praised but when Bollywood remade it as Dhadak, it got a lot of flack for being very glossed up and getting the Bollywood Karan Johar treatment, right down to the ending being somewhat sanitized. How there was artifice in the film and performances compared to how raw and real the original one was.

I didn't know that so many of the iconic writers and dialogues really come from the South and were used there before BW actors became known for these lines. It makes sense considering how often BW copies other films and industries with unofficial remakes. I had no idea that films like Tere Naam or even Amitabh Bachchan's films like Don were all heavily based off of south films and there was little awareness of this until now. Very revealing information.

Thank you for the links. I'll start going through those links and searching for the rest on Google or YouTube. It doesn't shock me that so much was copied in the 50s and 70s since there would have been no accountability back then especially since once a film was out of theaters, most people wouldn't be able to see those movies again.

I knew about Ghajini (I've seen the original version), Saathiya, and Kabir Singh being remakes. Didn't know about the others including Yuva that Mani Ratnam remade his earlier film. It seems like most of Janhvi Kapoor's movies are south remakes.

Rani's comments are now getting Twitter hate.

https://bnnbreaking.com/bnn-newsroom/rani-mukerji-faces-backlash-for-claiming-indian-cinemas-global-superiority/

However, Mukerji’s comments were not well received by the digital audience. Social media users, particularly on the platform formerly known as Twitter, called out the actress’ viewpoint as ‘garbage.’ The main bone of contention was her perceived overconfidence and lack of acknowledgment for the merits of cinema from other nations. Some users even questioned her ability to make such a comparison, citing her lack of exposure to international films.

Mukerji’s declaration that Indian cinema reigns supreme globally was met with a flurry of criticism. Netizens accused the actress of being naive and insular, pointing to the lack of Indian films’ presence in international circuits as a contradiction to her claim.

Fanning the flames further, a user referenced the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s disdain for the mainstream Indian cinema that Mukerji represents. Ray, known for his profound contributions to Indian cinema, had been vocal about his criticism of the industry’s superficiality and lack of depth. This reminder served as a poignant critique of Mukerji’s viewpoint and a call for introspection within the industry.

Rani's response was met with criticism on X (formerly Twitter), with some even saying 'Rani's take is as garbage as it gets.'

Reacting to a tweet that said, "India makes the best films in the world - Rani Mukerji. Do you agree?" One X user tweeted, "Haven't seen many Iranian films but pretty sure none of the acclaimed ones featured the protagonist in brownface the entire time to look 'poor' the way 12th Fail did. Rani's take is as garbage as it gets, and Karan Johar next to her (during the roundtable) loved Animal. Sums up the airheads running Bollywood."

Another said, "This is what happens when people don't watch enough movies from outside their country. Not a single point Rani Mukerji said makes sense." One more tweeted, "Saying India is the best and we make the best films doesn't mean a thing. Others should say it about us. This sounds pompous..."

An X user also wrote, "lol the audacity of casually countering the argued brilliance of Iranian cinema with 12th fail." One also tweeted, "The truly hilarious thing about that Rani Mukerji quote from the roundtable is that her prime example was Satyajit Ray, a man who had nothing but contempt for the kind of Indian cinema Rani makes (laughing emoji)."

Countering Rani's argument, a person also said, "We do make all kinds of films but that’s not to say we’re the best in the world. If what Rani says is true, why do our films struggle to find a spot in the international circuits? Most of our films are subpar and banal."

Lol, anyone who only brings up Ray to shut down a convo should be disqualified to talk of Indian Cinema. At least, have the guts and awareness to name one other director when you talk about the eternal glory of Indian cinema. That should be easy for you, Rani, because your father and uncle literally produced some of them. Your aunt was literally the lead in some of them.

Ray would have been the first one to ground her for such takes lol.

That was the part that shocked me the most that he has openly chided Indian cinema for being superficial and frivolous. Which makes using him as an example to defend Indian cinema as the best in the world, without needing to learn or take influence from any other cinema, as an even more ridiculous and absurd statement.

Maybe Rani did not want to sound biased by naming family members or her in-laws even.

The other thing that shocked me was learning that Vikrant Massey had to use makeup to darken his skin for 12th Fail. I've never seen him outside of that movie so I didn't realize that wasn't his natural skin color.
