India government destroys 20-foot Jesus statue in Christian village

The statue was destroyed on early Tuesday in Gokunte village in Karnataka state, in southwestern India.

“We demolished the statue based on the High Court order. After seven to eight hearings, the High Court had ordered the demolition of the statue as it was constructed on government land. We had issued a notice to the church regarding the demolition. We had to submit the compliance report to the High Court on Wednesday and hence it was demolished,” said a local official.

Father Theres Babu, who is also a lawyer, said that the demolition letter was never shown to them.

“The government has been repeatedly saying that the demolition letter was issued. We have been asking her to show the demolition order. It is not clear if it was a judgement. But [the government official] never showed us the order. She has been claiming that the government advocate has sent her an email, saying that the High Court has given an order and based on that she went ahead and demolished the statue,” Babu told journalists.

The statue was constructed next to Gokunte village’s St Francis Xavier’s Church in 2004. According to the villagers, a few pro-Hindu organization members wanted to create tension in the region and filed a plea in the High Court.

LOL! It clearly mentions it was built illegally and HC ordered demolition but you have to cry victim. smiley36

Hanuman statue built legally using private funds on a private property is a big issue. But, churches or statues built illegally by encroaching government land mustn't be demolished or you're persecuting poor minorities. Indian secularism!

Hardline Hindus protest huge Jesus statue in India’s Karnataka

Hundreds of hardline Hindus affiliated to India’s ruling party have rallied to protest against planned Jesus statue that will rival Rio de Janeiro’s Christ The Redeemer for size.

The protests in the southern state of Karnataka’s Ramanagara district on Monday were led by far-right Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), with its members clutching saffron flags as around 1,000 police stood by.

The RSS, which draws its inspiration from the German Nazis, is the parent organisation of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – which also governs Karnataka – and other Hindu groups, together known as the Sangh Parivar (or RSS family).

“We want to stop [the statue], since it goes against the spirit of communal harmony and encourages religious conversions which is rampantly carried out by Christian missionaries,” Prabhakar Bhat, a top RSS functionary, told Indian media.

Construction of the white granite statue 114 feet (34.7 metres) high – slightly shorter than the Rio monolith although the base will be bigger – stopped soon after it started last month after objections.

Many Hindus believe the hill where the statue is set to stand in the Christian-dominated village of Harobele is the abode of a Hindu deity, although no temple exists there.

The BJP-run state government accused the previous administration of the main opposition Congress party of illegally allotting the plot of land. DUH!

You don't even know Karnataka is governed by Congress and not BJP.

Before spreading your hate at least read before what you write and what is happening in India.

The statue in Karnataka is made in middle of road unlike Hanuman Ji one which was made on Temple property and not middle of road.

RSS are the ones who are actually helping in TN who are affected by flood, but they never show off what good deeds they do.

But people like u just love insulting them even when they haven't done any wrong and have no guts to talk against the people who actually do wrong.

Duh!
