Which movies did Kajol, Karisma, Madhuri, Katrina and Deepika make superhits on their own shoulders? I can hardly think of one or two movies, which is the same case with Aishwarya. Riding on male superstars to be successful doesn't make one a box office draw. Only Sridevi somewhat managed to do that.

madhuri had raja and hahk

even khalnayak was a big hit because of choli ke peeche

though hahk was both salman and madhuri who made it the biggest hit , salman was in the biggest flop streak before hahk, he had been almost written off.

Madhuri only has Raja. HAHK was not centered aroud her.

Salman had his breakthrough role in Sooraj Barjatya's blockbuster romance Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), for which he earned a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.[1] During the early 1990s, Khan starred in the action drama Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990), the action film Patthar Ke Phool (1991), and the romance Saajan (1991), all of which were financially successful.

Enough hits to be an established actor. And let's not get started on Madhuri's slew of flops which has already been pointed out by another member in this thread.

Only 10-15% of Madhuri's films were hits. She was known for her dancing skills and that's about it. She was nowhere near Sridevi by any means.

That's not true. The article clearly states Ghayal is the top grosser of 1990.

This wasn't a re-run years after release like Mughal E Azam in color or something. Ghayal was a phenomena like HAHK where screens were added months after release even in A centres like Mumbai. The distributors always make money even on a re-release years after. They own the film in that particular area, not the exhibitors. Usually its only D centres that play old films and the amount is negligible where adding it won't make any difference.

Dil started out stronger because of a top 15 album of all time(sales) but Ghayal overtook it eventually. Regardless both are 300 Cr+ Massive blockbusters in todays time.

👏

No lies detected. But this forum specializes in diminishing Madhuri's status. Anyway, I kinda hope someone will argue that Madhuri's flops were inspired by Sridevi's flops.

Karishma, Kajol and Aishwarya reigned supreme in the latter half of the 90s.

LOL. Aishwarya was successful in the last 6 MONTHS of the decade. "Reigned supreme in the latter half of the 90s" is pushing it, to say the least.

Kajol had a bad year in 1996 (one release: "Bambai Ka Babu" with Saif Ali Khan = mega flop). Karisma had zero releases in 1998.

Pretty wild claims.

LOL. The year 1999 belonged to Aishwarya, even if her movies released in the latter half of the year. She ended the century with a banger.

96-97 belonged to Karisma.

97-98 belonged to Kajol

99 onwards it was Ash.

Wild, but true.

97 was madhuri with dtph, mrityudand and koyla even though it flopped

after Madhuri and sridevi , no one heroine had the innings they had, it was random one each year.

the 90's on average was Madhuri's as the 80's was sridevi's

Nope. Madhuri had only one hit in 1997, that too shared with Karisma, who won the national award for the film. And this one came when Madhuri was having back to back flops. Credit goes to Yash Chopra, SRK and Karisma who were having many successful films apart from DTPH in that time.

Apart from DTPH, Karisma had Judwaa and Hero No.1, both hits.

Kajol had Ishq and Gupt. Again both hits.

If 97 was Madhuri's for DTPH, then what about Sridevi who delivered a smash hit in Judaai, her last film before she took a maternity break?

During this period she gave some big hits with young actors and a 3X more flops too, like 1 movie in 1993 was a blockbuster baaki ke chaar flops. And after that she gained weight all movies flopped. Dil Toh Pagal Hai happened during her flop phase she had already lost her position to Karishma/Manisha/Kajol by then. It was SRK and Yash Chopra's hit, not hers because of the loss of popularity.

In the Beta-Raja period she gave a LLOOTT of flops... she couldn't salvage those projects despite flying high despite giving hit albums. That means she also needed good story (The ones janta would like), pairing, music during that phase to make those movies work.

So yeah she was just like other #1 actresses who reigned BW for 3 years.

Yeh toh gayi box-office wise.. she didn't guarantee a hit even during her peak. Her craze was actually due to her dance performances. She had supehit songs in her flop films as well. And those days... songs used to release almost a year before the films release... toh song hit hote hi actress ko jo craze zaroori hoti thi mil jaati thi... film flop hone se utna kuch farak nahin padta tha.

Like you pointed out with facts, Madhuri was just another top actress of her period. She wasn't a phenomenon like Sridevi was.
