RAJKUMMAR RAO AND HANSAL MEHTA REUNITE FOR FIFTH FILM

By Avinash Lohana, Mumbai Mirror | Updated: Apr 28, 2018, 04.00 AM IST
Rajkummar Rao and Hansal Mehta reunite for fifth film
Actor-fi lmmaker duo's nextfilm together is based on true events and is set to go on the fl oors in Mumbai shortly

Rajkummar Rao and Hansal Mehta, who fi rst came together for the National Award-winning biographical- drama Shahid in 2013 and went on to make CityLights (2014), Aligarh (2015) and the upcoming Omerta, are now set to collaborate for the fi fth time. The fi lm is tentatively titled Swagat Hain.

"Yes, we are doing this film together and looking forward to it. Swagat Hain makes a strong statement about freedom of expression, hypocrisy and exploitation of women at the workplace and in personal spaces. It is a little early to reveal any more details on the subject as we are still developing the script. All I can say is that it is inspired by true-life incidents and we are doing something completely new this time, informs Hansal who will start work on the prep soon and is expected to start shooting in Mumbai shortly.

Mehta admits that he has been working on the film's idea for almost a year now. "I have been discussing the concept with Raj and we have always wanted to do this film together. He is a terrific actor and working with him has always been a pleasure. When we were doing the web series Bose: Dead/Alive and while travelling for its promotions, we were constantly discussing ideas for our next collaboration, which is when we stumbled upon this one, reveals the director, who is presently awaiting the release of Omerta which was pushed to May 4 from its original release date of April 20.

When asked about the delay in the film's release that is based on Ahmed Omar Saeed Shaikh, the British terrorist of Pakistani descent who killed Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl, Mehta says, "The film had gone to the Examining Committee of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) and they asked for too many cuts which wasn't acceptable to us. So, we reached out to the Revising Committee and it was finally passed with only two cuts which we have adhered to. The film is now ready to release, informs the maker.

While they gear up for their next film, Rajkummar is currently busy wrapping up work on Shelly Chopra Dhar's directorial debut, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, also featuring Anil and Sonam Kapoor, and Amar Kaushik's horrorcomedy Stree with Shraddha Kapoor. He'll soon start Mental Hai Kya with Kangana Ranaut.

It's not comparable imo because Rajkummar and Hansal always offer something new in their movies, there is no sense of deja vue (at least not for me) while DeepVeer Bhansali combo is repetitive in the sense that it's always about a tragic love story with pretty costumes and preferably set during a period era or inspired from such stories.

The fact that Mehta and Rajkummar also worked with other other people in-between (what with Rao being a filming machine) might help in this regard.

Hmm fair enough But to me Ramleela > BM> Padmaavat were totally different from the other. I dint find similarities in them.

Also RL wasnt a period film as such.
