Chapter 1
∆ 3 SISTERS
The Monga house stood humbly in a lower middle-class gali, where Ajeet and Santosh raised their three beautiful daughters amidst the bustling neighborhood.
Seerat, the eldest daughter, radiated elegance. Each stroke of her makeup brush was precise, her greyish-green eyes reflecting her enjoyment of the finer things in life.
She revealed in her beauty routine, her lips twitching with satisfaction as she sculpted her features.
Beside her, Sahiba, with her warm amber eyes, mirrored Seerat's actions, offering silent support and understanding.
Her forehead creased slightly as she concentrated, but her face relaxed into a soft smile, radiating quiet strength and empathy.
Then there was Keerat, the youngest and most spirited of the trio.
Her broad face framed her curly, shoulder-length braided hair that bounced playfully, bringing joy and mischief wherever she went.
Her wide smile was infectious, her energy boundless.
On one particular day, as Seerat focused on her makeup, Keerat couldn't resist the chance to liven things up.
With a playful push, she sent Seerat's makeup tumbling, much to her sister's dismay.
"Look what you've done!" Seerat exclaimed, her eyes widening in frustration as she scrambled to gather her scattered makeup.
Her lips tightened into a thin line, and a wrinkle appeared between her brows.
Keerat, her face lighting up with amusement, couldn't contain her laughter. "Oops! What about your brain, Cindy baby?" she teased, a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
Her lips twitched with barely suppressed mirth, and her cheeks red.
Seerat's eyes narrowed, a mix of irritation and disdain flickering across her face. "Keerat, you always do this!
Can't you see I'm trying to focus?" Her voice was sharp, and her lips pursed in exasperation.
Sahiba, always the peacekeeper, tried to diffuse the situation. "Keerat, don't tease her," she said softly, her voice filled with empathy.
She laid a gentle hand on Seerat's shoulder, her brow furrowing in concern. "Seerat di, she didn't mean any harm."
But Keerat was on a roll. "I'm sorry, but she looks like a joker sahiba di!" she continued, her laughter filling the room.
Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and her grin grew wider.
Seerat's face reddened, a mix of embarrassment and anger.
Her jaw clenched, and she glared at Keerat. "You don't understand anything, Keerat!"
Their mother, Santosh, entered just then, her eyes twinkling with amusement at the scene before her. "Keerat, behave yourself!" she scolded her angrily.
Keerat, knowing she had pushed her luck, darted behind their father, Ajeet, seeking refuge from her mother's scolding.
Ajeet, smiled at his youngest daughter's antics. "She's just a child, Santosh. Let her be," he said, his voice calm and soothing.
His eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled, and his expression softened.
"I'll give her a good talking, She needs to learn to behave like a lady ji " Santosh replied, her tone firm. Her lips set in a straight line, and her brows drew together.
But before Santosh could say anything, Keerat darted away, her broad face alight with mischief. "Keerat, come back!"
Santosh shouted, her brows knitting together in frustration.
Ajeet chuckled, a deep, hearty laugh that softened the tense atmosphere.
Just then, Sahiba entered the room, her warm amber eyes observing the scene with calm curiosity.
"Okay, I’m going to the shop," Ajeet announced, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled at his daughter.
"Yes, Papaji, let's go," Sahiba replied, her voice respectful and steady. She glanced back at her mother, her lips curving into a gentle smile.
Santosh’s expression softened, a hint of amusement in her eyes as she looked at Sahiba. "Tell Keerat to be more like you," she said, shaking her head slightly. "She just behaves like a boy."
After saying this, Santosh’s face relaxed into a fond smile, and she turned to leave, her earlier frustration melting away.
Meanwhile, Keerat made her way to the local market, her broad face animated with excitement. Spotting a group of boys, she flashed them a challenging grin. Her eyes landed on Kulche, an 11-year-old boy who always hung on her every word.
"Come on, let's play betaji!" Keerat urged, her voice carrying an air of authority. She shot Kulche a warning look, her eyebrows arching and her lips pressing into a determined line.
Kulche, eyes wide with admiration and a bit of nervousness, nodded eagerly. "Okay, didi!" he responded, his voice filled with excitement.
"Go fetch the other boys," Keerat commanded, her gaze intense and unwavering. Kulche didn't hesitate, sprinting off to gather the local boys for a game of Kabbadi. Keerat's face lit up with anticipation, ready for the challenge ahead.
