..Mujhse Dosti Karogi?..
"Kitni excited thi main! US aayungi, nayi jagaa aur dher sara mazaa! Par main kya janti thi ke yaha aane ke baad mera yeh haalat hone waali hain! Main yaha kyun aayi?", Nupur said while sobbing. She was sitting on the field behind the school campus. Tears didn't stop flowing from her eyes.
She slammed her forehead against her palm and said in annoyance, "Mera dimaag kharab ho gaya tha ke main yaha aayi. Yaha pe kuch accha nahi lagta. Aisa lagta hai ke main kisi dusri planet mein aa gayi hoon. Waha, India mein, mere friends hai aur main yaha chali gayi. 2 hafte baad friendship day hai aur main unke saath nahi hoon."
Just then, someone tapped on her shoulder. She wiped off her tears, turned back and raising her head, she saw a handsome guy. She stared at him for a while with a shocked expression.
The guy sat beside Nupur and clicked his fingers in front of her face which brought her back to the reality.
"Pehele kisi ladke ko nahi dekha kya?", the guy asked and giggled.
Nupur felt embarrassed. She lowered her eyes and said, "Woh actually bohot time ke baad yaha kisi Indian ko dekha, iss liye thodi shocked thi."
"Ohh!", the guy said. He smiled and extended his hand in a way of offering Nupur to shake hands. "Hi! I'm Mayank Sharma!"
Nupur looked up and slightly smiled. Extending her hand and shaking hands with Mayank, she said with a formal smile, "Nupur Bhushan!"
"Nupur.. umm nice name!", Mayank said smilingly. "Thanks!", Nupur said with a shy smile. She asked curiously, "Aap ko pehele toh yaha nahi dekha. School mein naye hai kya?"
"Haan! Aaj mera first day hai.", Mayank happily replied. "Waise ek baat poochu?", Mayank asked curiously.
"Sure!", Nupur said. "Tum ro kyun rahi thi?", Mayank said in a concerned tone.
Nupur looked to the other side and said, "Arey nahi! Main ro nahi rahi thi."
Mayank got up and sat on the other side where Nupur was looking at. He said, "Par maine tumhe apna aasu pochte huye dekha. Dekho, I know ke main tumhare liye ek stranger hoon par phir bhi, tum mujhe bataa sakti ho. Maine suna hai ke dard baatne se woh kam ho jaata hai."
Nupur hesitantly and innocently said, "Woh.. main.. apne.. friends.. ko bohot miss kar rahi hoon. 2 hafte baad friendship day hai. Hum log kitni masti karte the pehele par aab, main unn sab se itni durr."
Mayank grinned at Nupur's innocence. He said, "To iss bar yaha ke friends ke saath enjoy karlo." Nupur frowned and said, "Par mera yaha koi friends nahi hai."
"Oh!", Mayank said and frowned, too. "Toh phir apne friends ko phone karlo.", he said with a smiley face.
"Waha pe toh abhi midnight hai, aur waise bhi, phone pe baat karna aur saath mein masti karna, do alag cheez hain. India bhi nahi jaa sakti kyuki saamne finals hai.", Nupur said sadly and turned her face to the other side. She suddenly made an annoying face and said, "Uff yeh school waale bhi naa! Summer break ke time mein bhi school khula rakhte hai. Sab uss teachers strikes ke vajah se hua hai."
Mayank touched Nupur's cheek and made her look at him. He made a sad face seeing the tears on Nupur's cheeks and wiped off her tears very sweetly. Nupur was amazed at Mayank's caring gesture for her.
"Dekho Nupur, aise udaas hone se kuch hoga toh nahi naa. Naa tum India jaa sakti ho, naa tumhare friends yaha aa sakte hai. Aur waise bhi, tumhare friends ko bohot dukh hoga agar unhe yeh pata chale ke tum ro rahi thi. So, the best idea is to smile. Jab raat hogi, tab phone karlena. Theek hai?", Mayank said smilingly.
Nupur frowningly said, "Par.."
"Ek minute! Main tumhe kuch dikhaata hoon.", Mayank said and took out his wallet. He opened it and showed Nupur a photograph of a girl.
Nupur asked curiously, "Yeh kaun hai?"
Looking at the photograph, Mayank said smilingly, "Yeh meri cousin aur meri best friend thi, Meera Sharma. Hum dono ek saath bade huye, ek hi school mein gaye, phir ek din.." He stopped. Tears formed in his eyes.
Nupur was shocked seeing the tears in Mayank's eyes. She asked, "Kya hua tha?" Mayank said while sobbing, "Mere ghar aa rahi thi aur raaste mein accident.. Uski chik abhi bhi mere kaano se gunjti hai kyuki uss waqt hum phone par baat kar rahe the."
Nupur felt something piecing in her heart seeing Mayank sad. She said lowering her eyes, "I'm sorry!" Mayank wiped off his tears quickly and smilingly said, "Tum sorry kyun ho rahi ho? Main udaas nahi hoon."
Nupur looked up, shocked seeing how Mayank hid his pain so perfectly. Mayank sad smilingly, "Tum yehi soch rahi ho naa ke itna sab hone ke baad bhi main itna khush hoon, muskura raha hoon and all."
Nupur nodded. Mayank said, "Meera ek happy-go-lucky type ladki thi. Aur main tha ek chup-chap sa banda. Woh humesha mujhse keheti thi ke zindagi khulke jeena chahiye, muskurana chahiye, rona-dhona nahi chahiye and all these stuffs. Uske jaane ke baad maine khud se promise kia ke main wahi karunga jaisa woh keheti thi. Isse uski rooh ko bhi shaanti milegi. *pause* Issi liye keh raha hoon ke rone se kuch bhi nahi hoga. Mujhe dekho, main kitna khush hoon. Aur mujhe khush dekhkar Meera bhi upar baithke muskura rahi hogi."
Nupur slightly smiled and said, "Main nahi royungi. Pakka!"
Mayank broadly smiled and said, "Yeh hui naa baat. *pause* Ek baat kahu?" Nupur said smilingly, "Boliye!" Mayank forwarded his hand and said with a huge smile, "Main yaha naya naya aaya hoon aur mera yaha koi dost bhi nahi hai. So, if u don't mind, mujhse dosti karogi?"
Nupur was stunned for a moment but at the end, she happily put her hand on Mayank's and said smilingly, "Haan!" Mayank smiled broadly and said, "Thanks!"
Nupur mischievously smiled & said dramatically, "Dosti mein no sorry, no thank you!"
Mayank laughed seeing Nupur's drama and seeing that, Nupur laughed, too. Finally, they got someone whom they could call as their true friends.
