Tumbadd has re-released in theatres. Fans who did not watch it in cinema halls the first time round have booked tickets for the film. It is going to clash with The Buckingham Murders. It has sold more tickets than the Hansal Mehta film. Over the years, Tumbadd has got a cult status. Everyone who watched it on OTT want to see it on the big screen. Here is why the re-release of the movie is getting such an unprecedented response.

Cult Status
Over the years, Tumbadd has acquired a cult status. The film has earned high praise from whosoever has seen it in theatres. Even those who have seen it on OTT would not mind watching the movie on the big screen. It has trended organically on social media on so many occasions. This has made people more curious about the Sohum Shah movie.
Rise in the genre
Of late, people have lavished love on films like Stree 2, Kantara, Munjya and Bramayugam. Both these movies have their basis on folklore. People are keen to know unusual horror-thriller tales based on their own land. This has piqued interest in the story of Tumbadd, which is about the greedy god, Hastar.
Technical finesse
Tumbadd was truly a labour of love. It took Sohum Shah and team five years to make the movie. It was shot in real rains. As we know, the monsoon is integral to the plot of Tumbadd. Till date, it is one of the best shot movies to come out of Bollywood. Pankaj Kumar who has worked on films like Talwar, Ship Of Thesus, Rangoon was the DoP of Tumbadd. The background score is also exceptional.

While it was not a hit, the movie acquired cult status over time. Sohum Shah put up a fine performance as Vinayak. Many actors have also shown their love towards Tumbadd. On the other hand, The Buckingham Murders have got good reviews mainly for the exceptional performance of Kareena Kapoor Khan as Jazz Bhamra, a detective with a traumatic past.
