Triptii Dimri has made a significant mark in the Hindi film industry with her impressive performances in films such as Bulbbul, Qala, and Laila Majnu. However, her role in the action thriller Animal alongside Ranbir Kapoor was a turning point in her career. She is now preparing for her upcoming film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, where she will star opposite Rajkummar Rao. Interestingly, Triptii didn’t always dream of becoming an actor; she initially didn’t see it as a viable career option and had little interest in pursuing acting at first.

During a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actress shared, “I just wanted to do something different. I was never academically good. I told my parents I was going to give it (modelling) a try.” She also shared that her parents were quite apprehensive about her decision to move to Mumbai, especially since she was a shy and introverted person who had never ventured out of Delhi. They were not pleased with her choice to pursue modeling or enter the entertainment industry. However, despite their concerns, Triptii stood firm in her decision, choosing to pursue modeling because she didn’t want to have any regrets later on.

Once she made her decision, she started auditioning for roles extensively and landed a part in Poster Boys (2017) alongside Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol, and Shreyas Talpade. Reflecting on her performance, Triptii admitted that she struggled due to her limited understanding of acting at the time. She explained, “I didn’t know the meaning of DOP (director of photography) or what a POV (point-of-view) shot was. I didn’t perform well in it because I didn’t know the ‘a’ of acting.”

Triptii Dimri rose to prominence for her portrayal of Laila in the 2018 romance drama Laila Majnu, directed by Sajid Ali. Interestingly, she initially did not succeed in the audition for the film but was later called back because of her striking facial features, which evoke a Kashmiri look. Ultimately, she landed the role, but she experienced some uncertainty about whether to proceed with it.

“Even then, I didn’t know acting. I would sit in workshops with my director Sajid Ali and Avinash Tiwary, and they would have discussions on acting, backstory and characterisations. I would just sit there, blank-faced, not knowing anything. I would go home and cry thinking, ‘Am I doing the right thing?’ because I didn’t understand what they were saying or their language,” said Triptii. She continued, “But I was too scared. When you’re there and not getting anything, you feel like you are a fool, right? I would feel like a fool every single day.”

Despite her initial lack of knowledge about the industry, the 30-year-old actress from Garhwal in Uttarakhand has made significant strides in her career. In 2024, Triptii appeared in Bad Newz and is preparing for the release of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video alongside Rajkummar Rao. Looking ahead, she has Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Dhadak 2 lined up in her schedule.
