Sunny Deol slams remake culture, says, "I never like to do any scene which is done already"

Anil Sharma's action film Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has earned ₹135 crore at the box office during the opening weekend. A success press meet was held in Mumbai on Monday to celebrate the milestone. During the press conference, Sunny Deol spoke about changes in Bollywood and the remake culture.

Sunny Deol said, "Puri duniya humari kala chori karke gayi hai aur kaha se kaha pohach gayi hai. Hume pata hi nahi humari kala kaha gayi . Unko mat dekho. Hum unki nakal kar rahe hai. Hum apne aap se koi nayi cheez banaye. Mujhe koi kehta hai yaar ye scene hai us picture mai aisa hume bhi kare. Maine kaha kya soch nahi sakte hum koi naya scene. I never like to do any scene which is done already. That's how it should be. Zindagi mai kitne kisse hai, kitne hadse hai apko kyu ek hi cheez k piche padna hai.(We had a lot of talent, the world stole from us and has reached places. Don’t copy them, we have our own talent, let’s make something of our own. People tell me, ‘Let’s do a scene like that and I wonder why? Can’t we think of something new?’ That’s the way it should be) 

He continued, "Mujhe lagrha hai aj kal ki jo nayi generation hai I somehow feel connected to them. Vo apna desh dhunda chaha rahe hai. Kyuki school mai bhi humare desh k bare mai kuch padhaya nahi jata hia. vo humara cultre dhunda chahte hai, humari history dhundana chahate hai."

The actor, however, also lashed out at the division people make of cinema-watching audience. Sunny noted that clubbing films like Gadar 2 as a movie catering to only the “mass” section reeks of elitism and should not be the case at all as everyone is “public”.

“I promise all my fans that I’m only going to make good films like these. They say films for ‘masses’. What do you mean by that word?! Public is public, and that means everyone. Aap usko mass bolke neeche kar rahe ho? Aap bade ho? Aapko sa***n ko akkal nahi hai jo apne aap ko alag karta hai, usko samajh nahi hai hindustan kya hai. Understand our country, understand our home."

Gadar 2, which clashed with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, will now challenge the lifetime total of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which remains as the biggest Bollywood hit with collections of Rs 524 crore (Hindi) nett.
