Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame Kamalika Guha Thakurta has enchanted the audiences with her startling performances on television for more than a decade on television. The seasoned actress who was last seen on &TV's Badii Devrani has recently made an entry on Colors top rated show Naagin.
Essaying the role of Guru Maa, the veteran spills some beans about her character and her reason to take up this show.
Kamalika, please shed some light on your reason to take up a supernatural show like Naagin?
This show is faring well on the TRP chart and the character offered to me is an interesting one. My character in this show has a lot of color and will be well woven into the story. I find it challenging and I hence chose to be a part of Naagin.
Don't you think the concept of naagins and nagmanis are cliched?
Success of such shows indicate that such concepts have gone down well with the audience. Fairy tales do not have a shelf life. I take it as a figment of imagination. Moreover, this show is a finite series and I believe shows on television should not be taken seriously. It is purely for entertainment.
Please elaborate on your character and the reason you found it exciting to essay it?
Television has not seen many hunch back characters. Playing Guru Maa, her physical appearance, the way she walks and talks has a lot of mystery. The audience does not know if she is positive or negative so there is a lot of buildup of mystery which will unfold as the tracks progress.
Enjoying on the sets?
I have worked with Sudha Chandran before. Mouni Roy started her career with 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' so I have known her as a co-actor well and Mazhar Sayed is a friend. So I am enjoying shooting with them.
Personally, what kind of characters do you like portraying?
I just finished Badii Devrani where I played an entrepreneur who is independent, rich and flashy and now I am shooting for a show which is on a different spectrum. I would take time to understand how I want to mold my character here. To answer your question, substantial roles which have content is something which inclines me.
Well said, Kamalika!

Naagin is a super entertainer...Since its genre is declared and known before hand , people who want to try it will njoy d show..Its good rather than incorporating forcefully the supernatural theme into a normal show for TRPs...Guru maa is dng a decent job...Her voice is great!!!!

Yea, if RGV is making the film, we can all imagine how 'real' its going to be. And to think he jumped to this opportunity the day we gained control again of our city. I remember reading in the papers. I wasn't impressed then, still not impressed now.
