Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has announced that he will not be returning to directing after his recent film, Sadak 2. Bhatt, who has directed over 50 films in his illustrious career, made this declaration in a recent interview.

Mahesh Bhatt had previously stated he would not direct another film after his 1999 movie Kartoos. However, he broke his vow by directing Sadak 2 in 2020, a sequel to his 1991 film Sadak. The movie, which starred his daughter Alia Bhatt, was met with negative reviews upon its release. Despite this, Bhatt has now confirmed that he has no plans to direct again.

In a candid interview with MoneyControl, Bhatt expressed his feelings about his filmmaking career. He described himself as "outdated" and suggested that he no longer has the passion to create films. Reflecting on his last project with his daughter, Bhatt described it as a "disastrous collaboration" and stated that he does not have the desire to leave a mark on the industry like some of his peers. "I don't have the thirst to leave my footprints on the sands of time," he said, comparing himself to an "extinct volcano."

Instead of directing, Bhatt plans to focus on mentoring upcoming talent. He believes that guiding and helping others realize their potential is a more fulfilling and challenging task. This shift from directing to mentoring allows Bhatt to stay connected to the film industry while contributing in a different way.

In addition to his mentoring work, Bhatt has recently contributed to the film industry as a writer. He has penned the script for the thriller horror film Bloody Ishq, which stars Vardhaan Puri and Avika Gor. The film, directed by Vikram Bhatt, premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on July 26.

Mahesh Bhatt's decision marks a significant moment in his career, transitioning from a celebrated director to a mentor and writer. His contribution to the industry continues, but now through a different and more personal approach.
