Jigra director Vasan Bala deactivates X account post film’s failure

Director Vasan Bala has deleted his account on X following the disappointing performance of Jigra. Previously active on the platform, he often engaged with fans. However, after the Alia Bhatt-starring film's box office failure, he appears to have chosen to leave.

On Sunday, many users noticed that his account was no longer available. The landing page now displays the message, “This post is from an account that no longer exists.” Despite this, the filmmaker remains active on Instagram, where he has been sharing positive feedback about Jigra in his Stories.

Commenting on the film's disappointing box office performance, Vasan shared his thoughts with The Hollywood Reporter India.“For me, it has always been a struggle to put the film out. But this time, it was a given that the film was going to be out and in a big way. So this is a first for me, and I don’t even know how to process this. What I do know is there is a certain responsibility in the mainstream to deliver (at the) box office.”

When questioned whether he believed he had disappointed Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, Vasan acknowledged his feelings,"I do feel it. I feel it majorly. I mean, they are supremely supportive, and there is no ounce of letting me feel like this. It is something that I have to grapple with.” The director also highlighted the necessity of being receptive to criticism to keep moving forward in his filmmaking journey. “It is never graceful to defend a film after a point,” he added.

Jigra has faced scrutiny for various reasons. In addition to its disappointing box office performance, the film has been accused of inflating its box office numbers. Karan Johar has also been criticized for allegedly pressuring Alia into the role after Vasan disclosed that Karan had sent her the script before it was finalized.
