2012 Wrap Up: Bollywood's Top 10 Music Albums

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya

Starting off with the title song, "Pee Pa Pee Pa", elegantly sung by Diljit Dosanjh and Priya Panjal, the number gets you moving with the Punjabi elements added to it; this number also has a desi-mix version. Probably the two best tracks of the entire album are the two romantic numbers, "Piya O Re Piya" and "Tu Mohabbat Hai," sung by Atif Aslam. Atif's melodious voice sends you in a trance to a world full of hearts and love! The last but not least, the track that cannot be missed is Mohit Chauhan's "Jeene De", another romantic one, with a touch of Sufi style melody.

This harmonious album kicks off with "Mukhtasar" by Wajid and instantly catches your attention with its eloquent lyrics and beats, that just get you moving. Next comes "Allah Jaane" by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, with the usual Sufi touch, along with simple and romantic lyrics, enough to make the song worth listening to at least once. Sonu Niigam and Sunidhi Chauhan sing the next number, "Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff," a fun and happening number. Sonu's vocals just add to the already amazing beats.

Ek Tha Tiger

Music: Sohail Sen, Sajid-Wajid

The opening track of the album, "Masha Allah" has Shreya singing in a sensual tone, rather than her usual sweet voice, accompanied by Wajid, makes it an instant hit of the album. Then there is "Laapata" which is fast paced and brings about a techno-feel that can be blasted at a club. Up next is "Banjaara" which has Sukhwinder Singh's high-pitched and magical voice, while "Saiyyara" is quite slow in comparison, but again, Mohit Chauhan's melodious voice definitely does wonders to one's ears; after all, Chauhan is best at slow-paced, emotional songs.

Jannat 2

Director: Kunal Dekhmukh
Music: Pritam

The album kicks off with "Tu Hi Mera", which is a romantic track on the vocals of Shafqat Amanat Ali; it's a song that leaves you humming to its pleasant tunes. Next is "Tera Deedar Hua" with a typical Sufi vibe in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice. The album takes us into further darkness with the next soulful number, "Tujhe Sochta Hoon", brilliantly sung by KK. Other tracks include "Rab Ka Shukrana" by Mohit Chauhan and "Sang Hoon Tere" by Nikhil Dsouza. This is definitely a romance-filled album not to be missed!

Dabangg 2

Director: Arbaaz Khan
Music: Sajid-Wajid

The incomparable Rahat Fateh Ali Khan starts off the album with "Dagabaaz Re", which sounds almost like "Tere Mast Mast Do Nain" from the prequel Dabangg. "Pandeyji Seeti" is a fun-filled song with drums and tablas used as the background music. Up next is a typical item number, similar to the one in the movie's prequel; "Fevicol Se" is full of silly lyrics, but the beats, you just cannot ignore. A romantic number in the album is "Saanson Ne", with Tulsi Kumar's sweet voice, only complemented with the soulful Sonu Nigam.

 Agneepath(2012)

Music: Ajay-Atul

This awaited album kicks off with the most notable song out of all, the item number, "Chikni Chameli" by Shreya Ghoshal. The song is full on upbeat and gets you on the floor, ready to dance the night away; there is not a single beat in the song that would slow you down! Next is "Gun Gun Guna", by Sunidhi Chauhan; this one also portrays joyous emotions and is full of positive energy to cheer up a crowd. "O Saiyaan" by Roop Kumar Rathod, "Shah Ka Rutba" by Sukhwinder Singh, Anand Raj Anand, and Krishna Beura, are also worth listening to. However, one of the best tracks of the album has to be "Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin" by the ever melodious Sonu Niigam who takes you to a whole different world with this song. We recommend that this album should definitely be on your must-listen-to list!

Cocktail

This romantic album starts off with "Tumhi Ho Bandhu", which you just cannot forget after you have listened to it once. Neeraj Shridhar and Kavita Seth have done a fabulous job with the vocals and presented the lovely lyrics about friendship in a way that does not get too cheesy for the ears. Next is "Daaru Desi", another upbeat song that gets you hyped up, into the rhythm. The rock number of the album is "Jugni" sung by well known Pakistani artist, Arif Lohar. Then there is "Yaariyan" by Mohan Kanan and Shilpa Rao, both sounding lovely while portraying the heartbreaking emotions echoed through the mesmerizing lyrics. The other tracks of the album include "Second Hand Jawani", "Tera Naam", "Luttna", and "Main Sharabi", which are all quite commendable; don't forget to check those out!

Student of the Year

Karan Johar is back with yet another classic album that is full of variety. "The Disco Song" gets us moving to its beats the minute it begins and not to forget, the nostalgic old-is-gold feeling it brings from Nazia Hassan's evergreen number, "Disco Deewane", which combined give you an adrenaline rush. On the contrary is the soft, yet very powerful melody of "Ishq Wala Love", sung by the trio, Shekhar Ravjiani, Salim Merchant, and Neeti Mohan. The beats and lyrics are very light and soothing, which compliment the love triangle in the movie. A typical Punjabi number, "Kukkad" is another one in the album that gets your toes tapping the first time you hear it; it is full of Bhangra beats and English lines mixed in, for a perfect composition of a modern-day song. Next comes "Radha" sung by Shreya Ghoshal, Udit Narayan, and Vishal Dadlani, which can slow you down for the first few moments, but after that, its beats know no boundaries. Other numbers in the album include, "Ratta Maar" and "Vele" that are worth listening to as well! Over all we would say Karan Johar lived up to expectations and gave a rocking album!

Raaz 3

Director: Vikram Bhatt
Music: Jeet Ganguly, Rashid Khan

The album starts with "Deewana Kar Raha Hai" by Javed Ali who portrays the depth of Rahid Khan's lyrics in a beautiful way. Next is "Zindagi Se" by Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, which follows the same path as "Deewana Kar Raha Hai", but again, Shafqat does an amazing job at bringing out the intensity of the wonderful lyrics. "Khayalon Mein Bhi" is a total girly song, by Shreya Ghoshal, rather a track that seems to be a bit out of order in a thriller like Raaz. Rafta Rafta did quite well in terms of its lyrics and listening to "Oh My Love" by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, you just cannot resist nostalgia of "Soniyo" from Raaz- The Mystery Continues.

A fairly average album, but failed in comparison to its prequel.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Music: A.R. Rahman

This album marked the very first collaboration of director Yash Chopra with music composer. A. R. Rahman, along with lyricist Gulzar.  By now, you either love or hate the track titled "Challa", but once you're hooked, the humming sees no stop sign. The album also features "Heer" sung by Harshdeep Kaur, bringing out combined emotions of love and separation. The song indeed fails to leave you once you have entered the quiet zone of its soothing melodies. If those haven't become your favorite yet, then there is the traditional, "Saans" beautifully chanted by Shreya Goshal along with Mohit Chauhan, which definitely makes it up to the classical music for which Yash Chopra is widely known. While the soothing and soulful numbers make a good mark, the upbeat track "Ishq Shava" also does its part of making your feet tap to its music!
