Immigration systems and policies vary from country to country, and the pathways to citizenship in India differ from those in the United States or Canada. Each country has its own set of eligibility criteria, procedures, and requirements for individuals seeking citizenship or residency. There is no gold standard here; neither does India have an obligation to follow in the footsteps of western nations. Asylum seekers may not have a precedence over other immigrants when it comes to naturalization eligibility but they do have priority access to certain humanitarian-based immigration programs, such as refugee resettlement or asylum protection in US. Discrimination? Not exactly! Just a policy based on “values“.

That said, I don’t see a reason why * anyone’s * path to citizenship should be expedited. Sure, without citizenship, they can’t vote, or hold public office, or have certain privileges that citizens do, but so what? Asylees are now in the country of their choice, not being persecuted and waiting in line to become citizens just like everyone else in the queue, right? What’s wrong with first come first served then?

LOL! Muslims from all over the world can apply for citizenship. CAA just fast tracks the process for the persecuted minorities from 3 islamic countries. Now, Muslims aren't a minority in those 3 countries. Moreover, given how your ilk alleges that they're being oppressed in India, why do you want more of them to come here and face further oppression? I'm genuinely curious.

@bold, as asylees, they are not eligible for purchasing property in here. They have difficulty in getting into educational institutes. They actually were able to get Covid vaccine after few deaths in camp (a person who died went twice for the vaccine but was returned both the times since he didn't have an Adhaar card)

citizenship is a must for them else they might die.

A person willing to get a citizenship can not be equated with someone who is living in sub human condition here only to evade persecution they face in their daily lives

Persecuted religious minority in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Where do Muslim the majority come into discussion here?

Good decision hope they stick to it.

Honestly CAA isn't even that big deal as it isn't about Indians.

It is about those who are getting prosecuted in Muslims majority countries due to not being Muslims so Muslims can't be included.
