Part 68
M - No. You are not a gold digger. I won't discuss philosophy, but I strongly believe that being a greedy is good. Being greedy makes people ambitious. And without ambition we would still be living in the stone age. What else is troubling you?
Maan spoke patiently. Telling her slowly everything he believed in. Everything he felt.
Geet felt like she had been put under some mesmerizing spell the moment he kissed her forehead.
What gradiences? She can't remember a single complaint right now.
She looked away from Maan tugging on him helplessly.
G - ...I.. I don't know... it's just. Whatever everyone pointed out is still right. You... we... we don't have anything in common... logically it's inevitable that we will break up one day...
M - And so what if we break up one day?
G - Then both of us will be hurt needlessly.
M - Why will we breakup if it's going to hurt? Why not stay together then? And why stay together if being apart doesn't hurt? I find it more interesting to learn new things because we have nothing in common. We are never bored of the same sh*t. Do I bore you? Do you really hate spending time with me?
G - I don't hate... before I said it in anger... But this...it just seems like it's impossible to me. No matter what you say.
Maan sat back and rubbed his face feeling a bit exhausted.
If nothing he says can convince her... then he can only let his actions speak for him
But why is it his job to convince her? Why can’t it be her job to convince him?
He can't be the only one saying and doing everything otherwise it will end up like a Stockholm syndrome situation.
Where he basically wore her down into accepting her fate.
Maan got up and fetched her some water to drink.
After brief lull in conversation, he spoke again.
M - It's okay if you don't believe and don't feel convinced.
G- Huh?
M - Tell me. Do you believe me what I told you about my relationship history?
Geet thought for a moment and then nodded yes.
He had no reason to lie to her.
M - Will you believe some random person next time if they claim similar nonsense?
G - I...
M - You will?
G - Then did you never date before? See any woman? Been with anyone? Don’t tell me you are…!!!
She gasps.
Maan realized he should have left it alone and quit while he was ahead. And now this new can of worms has opened up.
Maan looked away…he didn't want to look bad, but he really never had a romantic relationship before... those things had been just...
Where is the time machine when you need it?
M - I did have physical relationship with a few women but there was no romance involved.
G - So many one-night stands?
Geet asks with her eyes dramatically big.
M - No not one night stand-
G - No way!! You hired prost-
Maan hurriedly Blocked her next few words with his hands.
M- No no !! It was more like friends with benefits thing.
G - So you had s*x with Auesha too!!
She narrows her eyes.
M- No. Not with her. No!
She raises her eyebrow.
G - Wasn't she your good friend? Why not have her benefits? She would have been quite eager and willing.
M - You go to college to study or sleep around? I was studying... I didn't do such things then... and later it's more like I know a person and some benefits... It's not friends not even acquaintances...it’s... randomly sleeping with unknown person just feels unclean... you never know what they could be carrying... who they have been with. But if you know about a person…their general background and character and... then if both parties want to get rid of some urges …Don't look at me like that and ask me more, okay? I haven't been the nicest person in past.
G - Look like what?
M - ah... Suspicious one... Like I have STD or something. I am not a virgin... but I also don't have ... haven’t... indulged in these things.
He wasn't even friends with those women... it just reflects how unemotional and cold hearted he was. It really was all physical. He didn't need to like the person or anything.
It was more like to relive physical urge sometimes rather than finding a person attractive and wanting to do it with them.
G- It's hard to believe. Didn't You agree to have one night stand with me?
Maan roughly combed his hair. Looking around the room.
M - It wasn't just you having your first one night stand that time.
Maan got up and walked around the room.
M - ahem..are you hungry? Want some snacks? Ahem.. ah.. um.. drink? Should I order something... where is the menu card?
Geet looked at Maan acting awkward and out of sorts.
Not just hers first one night...?
His first one night...
His first
Oh dear...
G - Hmm maybe order something light…
Geet finally stopped talking about the dangerous topic.
Aur Maan ko bhi nahi bata sakte ki he is her first everything.
Usne poocha nahi toh Geet kyun muh khol kar bole.
But seeing her lack of kissing technique…Maan already has some speculations.
M - Right. Right.
Maan ordered some food. And excused himself to take a quick bath and change into his pajamas.
Due to unexpected divergence in topic of conversation and now this break. Geet had plenty of time to finally calm down and think clearly.
She recalled all the things Maan had just said to her and also understood that he really did get angry too for her sake.
And he wasn't being fake angry... she really believed that there will be significantly less people around tomorrow.
It also registered now that he had honestly confessed to liking her and crushing on her.
Although it didn't sink in and felt unbelievable…but he still said it out loud clearly to her.
And as for this strange marriage and relationship... he seems to have a wait and watch ... it will all be fine attitude.
She couldn't comprehend this confidence and calmness...
Geet felt a bit woozy from all the emotional upheavals.
Once the snacks arrived, both of them ate silently.
Once finished, they both settled in their separate beds.
G - The snacks were nice…
M - Yeah…the restaurant here is pretty good
He quickly told her of a few specialty dishes served there.
M - You will definitely like them. They are really authentic tasting.
G - …can't I just go back? It's really awkward here.
M – Okay... if you don't like it. We will go. I just wanted you to have a nice vacation. When was the last time you took a leisure trip?
G - I have been travelling all the time last year.
M - That was work.
G - I don't know then... 5-6 years ago...
M - I wanted you to bring on a trip you can enjoy. Where you will be spoilt for choice. Anything you want to do is available. I never wanted you to try and fit in. Or try to do everything same thing as me or participate in what others are doing just for the sake of it. I'd rather follow you around and see you enjoy yourself doing what you like.
His motive for coming here is not friends firsts and Geet second but opposite.
Woh abhi isiliye laya ki thodi chehel pehel mahaul rahega…nahi to itne bade resort mei akele won't be same
Geet could feel his sincerity and once again felt a bit guilty for spoiling his get together despite her best intentions and efforts.
Maan could see Geet was unwilling to stay and she didn't bring it up again for his sake.
