Wow.

You guys had some real good discussion in this thread.

I'm gonna give ZGH a try maybe later on...but, till then MZZB tops my list for Umera's book adaptations to drama. It really managed to get the viewers' hearts. I don't have enough words to describe my love for Saba's character... the drama made me believe that Saba actually existed in real life. I sympathized with her, cried for her, but then, I was very proud of her too for the way she stuck to her beliefs! Umera Ahmed is a genius, her characters are deep but never fail to touch base with reality!

So, after liking Mahira from Humsafar, I was too excited for Shehr-e-Zaat and then decided to read the actual story. And, boy, I got so engrossed in it that I didn't even realize when the story finished. It made me reassess so many aspects of my own life. In just a couple of pages, Umera introduced a whole new way of looking at things... So, after such a heavy and engraving impact from the novel, I was a bit turned off with SeZ, the drama. I watched till a couple of episodes, but then I felt it wasn't doing as much justice to the novel and I left it midway to avoid spoiling that impact of the novel/story.

I've watched Man-O-Salwa too. I don't have much complaints with the actors, rather than the way the director portrayed the story. It felt too dramatic at times, unlike what Umera's novel usually aim for. To put it simply, I felt it didn't have much of 'heart' in it! Maybe if they kept things a bit more simpler, it would have been more effective. However, I really liked the whole aspect of Resham's character's relationship with her dad. It was quite touching.

Hey Dex!
Its awesome to find you here. Welcome! (although I'm not really active here either...πŸ˜†)

QeT was very good! Kept me guessing for long to what exactly went wrong, who was bewafa, who wasn't! πŸ˜›

As a few others, I'd definitely recommend Malaal, Daam, and Doraha quite strongly from Umera's works! My most favourite among these three is Malaal though, quite an usual story with 'new' aspects that it introduces with characters like age difference etc.

You should give Shehr-e-Zaat another try, especially from the 11-12 episode.
I agree the beginning was kind of annoying, I haven't read the book, but Falak's spirtuality path was great.
And yes QET was brilliant. Loved Saba Hameed, Savera and Faisal.

DES, Daam, Malal, Doraha... There all original scripts and so much better than the novel adaptations.
The only UA drama that I didn't like is Mirat-ul-Aroos. Even Maat with it's flaws was great but Mirat-ul-Aroos just doesn't have the esscence of an UA script.

I'm not sure, they are all so natural at it. It's hard to pick a favorite performance. But I like Aisha from QET, both the girls from Maat and Kashaf and her mom from ZGH the most.

lol.. you have named almost all of them πŸ˜†
