Rukhsar's state is sad. She has to save for her dowry, feed her in laws, give them gifts even before marriage. Being engaged to a spineless man for 5 years makes it worse. She lives in a society that will question her if she breaks this engagement. Even if she does...she knows very well that she'll probably never get another man to like her in this fair skin obsessed society. Her envy for her beautiful cousins, rich cousin is natural.
What's her brother's contribution to the house? Other than moping about Kiran.
I agree. Though Rukhsar is constantly ranting about her life which can get annoying, you still do feel fer her somewhere. For starters, her fiance seems to be taking advantage of the fact that she's a working woman and then as you mentioned..her brother, Adnan doesn't seem to contribute much at home either which doesn't help.
I also like how they chose Uroosa for the character of Rukhsar. It's not just about the fair skin obsession but the blunt comments her in-laws make in regards to her weight etc. Her fiance himself is fugly and seems much older than Rukhsar yet comments on Rukhsar's appearance which is just mind boggling..as if he has anything to flaunt. So, the whole situation with her always feeling flustered is bound to happen.
