Review
An Umera Ahmed drama is like a festival for the drama viewers in our country. Umera Ahmed is a name to reckon with. She is someone who evokes the right emotions in the viewer with her words, and if we have actors like Sawera Nadeem, and Faisal Qureshi enacting the characters etched by her , under Babar Javed's direction then it surely is a master piece.
Now, after a great introduction. Is Qaid-e-Kahaani what it promises to be? Continue reading this review to find out.
Qaid-e-Tanhaai is the story of a much in love couple Ayesha(Sawera), and Moiz(Faisal) that gets married against Moiz mother's(Saba Pervez) wish and due to financial troubles Moiz has to go outside leaving his wife and daughter Noor(Neelam Muneer) at the mercy of his family, and friend Jawad(Jibran Syed).
The story shows the difficulties faced by the couple as Jawad starts getting attractd towards Ayesha, and on the other hand Moiz starts having feeling for Aneela(Sunita Marshall) whom he marries, and has a son Farhan(Zorain), but the couple eventually break up.
The title of the show come from what both Moiz and Ayesha have to suffer thanks to their own decisions. Moiz who loved Ayesha is devastated to know of the affair with Jawad who ditched Ayesha citing family reasons, and both Ayesha and Moiz are left in "Qaid-e-Tanhaai".
So, did the story give you dj vu feeling? Well, we agree. It's been there done that, and offers nothing new in terms of content – but then in todays world it is not just the story that makes a drama. The characters, relations, execution all does it.
The drama shows many relationships from husband-wife, girlsfriend-boyfriend,mother in law-daughter in law, to brother-son, and they are all executed perfectly. Faisal and Sawera share the kind of awkward chemistry that is required for this role, and both are perfect for the role. Faisal Qureshi essays the extension of the role he has already played in likes of Meri Zaat, and does not offer anything new but no complains as the actor is just perfect. Sawera wears the same expression throughout the drama and is good in the role of a bechari wife.
Now the daughter Neelam Muneer. Well, she is excellent in thie role. She plays the brat beautifully and the evolution , and the relationship with her parents, and step brother is beautiful. In fact the scenes between Noor Aapa-Farhan have the spark that other scenes often lack. Neelam gets a beautiful character to play and she takes to it like a fish takes to water, and turns out to be a scene stealer. Her climax scene with Faisal Qureshi where she speaks her heart out is beautifully written, directed, and executed. Zorain is a new talent but is good, but- what with the fake accent? I am sure we'll see him in many new roles.
One of the other beautifully written role is that of the zaalim saas played by Saba Pervez. Well, she is a volcano of talent and no words could define the level of her excellence perfectly. She is simply brilliant in all shades of the show be it the loving mother, evil saas, or the nice lovely daadi. She carries the fire needed to play the role, and no one could've done justice to this exceptionally well written character but her.
Now from some really ell written characters to the weak one. First comes the role played by Sunita Marshall. She is first seen as a girl friend, and then a wife. Well, looks like the editor did not like Sunita as she hardly got any screen time, and most of her scenes were surely chopped – or she just never bothered reading the script and accepted this half baked role that did nothing but damage her reputation.
Now the character of Jawad played by Jibran . This is another half baked character that brings one major twist in the story but then disappears. This one is poorly written, and was given no importance. Jibran has yet to prove himself as an actor, and he fails here.
The supporting characters played by Asif Raza Mir, and others playing the sisters do the job just right.
Well, a director is very important. He is the man who sails the ship. This one is directed by the ace director Babar Javed himself, and no complains here. The man does complete justice to whatever was provided to him, and gave us some exceptional scenes like the confession in the end . But, I have one complain…. Why didn't you name it Meri Zaat part II? Am I the only one who saw all the similarities? I guess no! We have been reading that a lot.
Dialogues penciled in by Umera Ahmed are brilliant. The locations of Europe are breath taking. Cinematography is perfect. Editing is good to poor. The culprit in this one is the length. The direction is good but there is one place where it fails and it is the length. The drama extends, extends, and goes no where for a good few episodes ending abruptly. Poor ratings to blame for the sudden end? The climax was good with happy ending but why so hurry?
The title song is beautiful, painful, and soulful ,and something you must listen to for atleast once.

Now, the final verdict. Watch it only for the great performance, and emotions- but if you are looking for some real story then this one is not for you.
