Part 6

Finally Neil was convinced for coming to dance. He got ready in hurry and went with Bobby and Ashok. Before entering to college he turned back and gave Ashok a tight hug. “Thank you for everything, for being there for me, for really being my fairy God father.” Ashok just ruffled his hair in affection. He was proud on himself that he could help out this innocent boy.

Neil saw everyone was dancing with there respective partners. He saw Mini was standing in one corner, lost in her thoughts. Her date Rahul was busy ogling other girls in short dresses. Seems like Mini was disappointed with her date. Just then last dance was announced and Neil found the opportunity to ask Mini. He felt butterflies in his stomach but he took a deep breath to calm down. Its was a now or never moment for him. Its for this moment he has been practicing all these days.

Mini was about to leave feeling disappointed at the turn of events. She thought may be Rahul will be a good company but soon his façade of being a gentleman washed out as he started to get touchy with her on the pretext of close dancing. When she rebuked him, he didn’t even apologize and went to try his luck with other girls. This year college dance also a dud for her. She was about to step out of hall’s gate when someone tapped on her shoulder.

“Excuse me! Can I have the honour of having this last dance with you?” Neil asked in most polite manner.

Mini looked at the gentleman. He was tall and handsome man wearing crisp well fitted tux. But his curly carefree hair gave totally different vibe. She looked into his eyes, black, deep and intense. She wondered who he was as she couldnt guess because of his mask. How come she didnt notice this guy till now? There was something about this man which inspite of being disappointed with this year’s college dance, made her say yes to him.

As she put her hand in Neil’s hand, his heart started pounding inside his chest. He couldn’t believe his luck, Mini had said yes to him. Finally the moment came for which he was waiting so desperately. They proceeded towards dance floor. Neil couldn’t believe this was happening in reality. Numerous times he had imagined this scene and every time he would mess it up in his imagination also due to his nervousness but when finally it was happening, he was not at all nervous. From the moment he held Mini’s hand in his he was confident like never. He felt as if he has held his whole destiny, his life, his dream in his hand and he is not going to ruin anything because he want it to be his picture perfect moment.

The song started and Neil placed his hand on Mini’s waist and ever so gently pulled her close. Mini had danced numerous times with numerous guys, she was not the shy girl but when this gentleman pulled her closer, she felt butterflies in her stomach. She looked into his eyes, the magnetic black ones were mesmerizing her chocolate brown orbs into trance. They were close but something in her told her heart was not contended with this. She kept her hand on his broad shoulder and stepped even closer. Now she could feel his minty fresh breath on her face. They started swaying on the song which was meant to intensify their chemistry and give words to unspoken feelings.

Neil was struggling to get these steps perfect everytime he attended those classes but now he was doing it effortlessly as if he was meant for it. Mini was following his lead, his immaculate steps. She was impressed by his dancing skills. She was for the first time in the evening enjoying dancing. Neil twirled her and Mini giggled. Even in the music Neil could hear her windchime like giggling and he couldn’t stop himself smiling. Mini saw his lips curved into smile and she felt it was breath taking. The most genuine smile, the smile which could even melt stone, smile which was infectious and it reflected in his eyes too.

Neil turned her around and now Mini was holding him back, hugging him as if whispering sweet nothings in his ears. They swayed like this sometime and Neil again pulled her in front. They matched their foot steps as they moved forward and backward then Neil turned her around and pulled her closer to his chest. Her back hit his chest and hands clasped in his hands. Neil lifted her like that few inches above the ground and she arched her back to support him. When he put her down, she almost hugged him. Mini looked in Neil’s eyes once again and like the song was slowly settling through their hearts, they started feeling that they have waited for this moment for their whole life. Mini, most popular girl of college, who has dated numerous boys, has finally found her soulmate and with each passing second she was falling in love with him.

Neil was spell bound by Mini’s beauty. He had loved her ever since he had seen her but today he felt as if he will die if he didn’t get her. Every fiber of his body was yearning for her. She was soul to his body. Without her, his life was meaningless. He was stunned by the depth of his own feelings for her. She was the drug he needed to carry on living. In heat of the moment he pulled her closer. She almost bumped into his chest. She looked down shyly but he placed a finger at her chin and made her look into his eyes while they continued dancing.

The song ended abruptly ending their beautiful moment. Everyone was disappointed at the interruption and started shouting to play the song. But the organizer committee members came and denied the request because it was already very late and authorities were pestering them for some time now to pack up the function soon. Finally everyone accepted their defeat and started coming out of the hall.

Neil and Mini too came out. Mini stood near the fountain in garden area. Neil could sense she was upset.

“Hey! What happen? You didn’t enjoy our dance? Why are you upset?”

“I loved dancing with you but its just that, you know it was my favourite song and I wanted to listen full song.” Mini told the reason. Yes, she wanted to listen the song but the real reason was she wanted to dance with him some more.

Neil kept looking at her. It was his perfect evening with Mini. He didn’t want to ruin it. He must make sure Mini gets what she wants. He looked at the hall. The lights were off, they cant play it now. Then suddenly he realized something and smiled at her. “Ofcourse! You idiot., you can sing for her.” He talked to himself.

Neil sang the last part of the song while Mini’s back was towards him. Mini was looking at the water deposited in the fountain bed and Neil’s reflection in it. As soon as Neil started singing Mini was surprised but she didn’t turn back. She just closed her eyes to listen his melodious voice. But then with her eyes closed she was transported back to the moment when earlier today she was listening to this singing performance. She was equally mesmerized by the voice.

“That guy on stage…his voice…this same voice…this same mysterious man…this is him. Didn’t that same man evoke intense emotions in her with his soul full voice and now he is her dancing partner. She got to know him closely. How perfect this man is as if she was waiting for him only.” Mini was overwhelmed with the emotions.

The moment Neil finished the song and opened his eyes. He found Mini was very close to him, closer than he ever thought, almost an inch away from him. She was looking at him with so much admiration and love. Before he could have reacted, he was rewarded with a moment, a moment so tender yet passionate, a moment he couldn’t even dare to dream about, a moment so perfect that he would cherish all his life. Mini had kissed him on the lips. Her soft rose petals of lips were locked with his waiting lips. The tenderness with which they were engaging against his lips was mind blowing. He never wanted this moment to end. He was a novice to all this but his lips started moving on his own like they always knew what to do when her rose petals lips will be placed on them. He tasted her and her love like imprinted on his heart. He pulled her closer and she put her hand in his hair caressing them. Due to his height she was feeling uncomfortable but she didn’t want to end their moment. So she stood on tiptoe to match his height and continued their kiss. He supported her from back while responding to her kiss in equal vigor. Only after what felt like eternity they pulled apart. Before Neil could have thought, his feelings came out in the form of poetry.

Chhu liya jo honthon se tumne

Vaada e wafa ko mehsus kiya

Kabhi na tutega ye rishta hamara

Gehra samundar se bhi jyada kar diya

Now Mini was in for the third surprise in the same day. The words came out of Neil’s mouth and Mini immediately knew, he was none other than her secret admirer. So she finally met him. Her wish came true. She wanted him to come out and ask her out for dance and he did that. She looked at him from top to bottom. He was really in front of her. She was staring in his eyes and wanted nothing more than to pull that mask off from his face so that she could see him properly. She moved towards him to exactly that but someone called him from far and he turned around.

“Arre tu yaha hai! Abe chal nahi to der ho jayegi.”

As Neil heard Bobby’s voice from far he looked at his watch. It was already 12 am. He was already late. He has to rush now.

Neil started going but Mini held his hand. “Ruko, kaha jaa rahe ho? Mujhe dekhna hai tumhara chehra.”

“Wo 12 baj gaye….Mujhe jaana hi hoga nahi to bahut problem mein phas jaunga.” Neil replied but he kept moving.

“Kya matlab….dekho maine tumhe pehchaan liya tum mere secret admirer ho na jo mere locker mein wo notes rakhta hai aur wo sham wala singing performance bhi tumne diya tha…I want to know you my mystery man.” Mini tried her best to keep up with his pace but he was moving really fast and she couldn’t match him due to her heels.

Neil checked the watch again and panicked. He increased his pace. In desperation she kicked out her heels and ran behind him till the gate but it was too late. He was already gone, her mystery man disappeared like he was never here, as if he was figment of her imagination.

Next day Mini told everything to her friends and they just laughed at her for telling them such filmy story. Mini waited that her mystery man will come and meet her directly but whole day passed he didn’t come. Mini was agitated. She resolved to find out herself who was he.

On the other hand Neil was late in coming back. Mrs. Sandhu and even his evil brothers had reached before him. All hell came loose on him. All of them had said so many rude things to him, about him being orphan and almost threw him out like Mrs. Sandhu had threatened but then she changed her mind thinking they will loose their free servant. So they grounded him for a week, didn’t even allow him to attend college and burdened him all kinds of household chores. Neil desperately wanted to go to college and meet Mini. He was sure now Mini wont ridicule him, she loves him and will accept him with his reality. But Mrs. Sandhu was on guard duty herself, she was keeping eye on Neil so that he wont escape and no one was allowed to meet him not even Bobby and even professor Ashok.
