Dale Steyn suggests rule change in cricket after potential last-ball controversy in Rajasthan’s win

The IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday ended in a last-ball thriller with the home team winning the IPL 2024 clash by one solitary run.

Royals needed two runs off the final ball. But Hyderabad’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a superb ball to Rovman Powell’s pads to get him LBW. While Rajasthan Royals had no reviews left at that stage, the talk was what would happen if they had taken a review and had the decision from the on-field umpire revoked.

The rule book states that even if the decision was overturned by the TV umpire, the batters could not run leg byes. While the rule would not have changed the outcome of Thursday’s IPL match since the decision was correct, it raised some eyebrows, with people questioning what would happen if the on-field umpire’s decision was actually incorrect and would be overturned.

Can Sunrisers break their losing streak against Lucknow?

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be determined to break their streak of losses against Lucknow Super Giants at home in the IPL 2024. The former champions, who clinched the title in 2016, have suffered defeats in all three of their previous encounters against Lucknow Super Giants. In their latest clash in the IPL 2024 in Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over SRH. As SRH prepares to face LSG once again, the question arises: Who will emerge victorious in this showdown between equals?

Powerplay domination

SRH have hit the most sixes in the powerplay this season, 41 to LSG’s 20, while going at a run rate of 11.04 as compared to LSG’s 8.48. In the death overs, they have hit 36 sixes, again the most, while LSG’s 16 sixes are the fewest in that phase. LSG’s batters will need to level-up as they play their last three league games on the road at potentially high-scoring venues: Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai.

Trouble for Sunrisers' bowlers?

Things have been inconsistent for the Orange Army as far as teh bowling department goes. In today’s match, Pat Cummins would want his bowlers to be more disciplined. The 102 off 51 deliveries ton by Suryakumar Yadav must be fresh on minds of SRH. The seven-wicket win really complicated the matters for the Orange Army and they would like to make amendments tonight.

What's the current scenario of IPL Point Table?

Things are more or less organized for the top two spots. Kolkata Knight Riders are leading the charts with Rajasthan Royals at second number. It’s a complete muddle from here on. Four teams are tied at 12 points. These are – defending champions Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. The matches of these teams will determine the fate of the number 3 and number 4 spot in the playoff. The stakes are high and it’s high-octane drama from here on.

Is it advantage Sunrisers?

There’s some sense of confidence for Pat Cummins & co. They will be playing their remaining league matches at Uppal, which has been the venue of their wins in three out of 4 matches. In terms of overall innings average, there have been 8 matches here so far. Out of 8 times, 5 matches saw teams scoring 200+ on the borad with 92 sixes. SRH will want to showcase their batting prowess once again tonight.

It's getting to crunch time for the two teams in action today - Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants. They're two of the four teams stuck on 12 points on the table and both have three games in hand, making this encounter all the more important. The Sunrisers have lost a bit of steam in the last few games; losing 3 of their 4 games and the lone victory was also by 1-run margin. But they are back playing at home and that will boost their morale. The Super Giants suffered a big loss in their previous game to KKR and will have to put it behind them quickly. They have been inconsistent right through; winning a couple, losing a couple and now will hope that wave changes to winning again. The pitch report should be out next followed by toss and team news. Stay tuned..
