India vs Australia Not Virat Kohli Australia have plans for all Indian batters says Nathan Lyon-IND vs AUS: भारतीय बल्लेबाजों को ऑस्ट्रेलियाई स्पिनर की चेतावनी, कहा- कोहली ही नहीं हमारे ...

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was established in 1996 to honour two cricketing greats: Allan Border of Australia and Sunil Gavaskar of India. The trophy was introduced to celebrate the cricketing rivalry between India and Australia, which was growing in intensity as the teams met more frequently in competitive series.

The inaugural Border-Gavaskar series took place in India, where the hosts claimed the trophy in a one-off Test match. From then on, the series developed into a biennial contest, with Australia and India hosting on a rotational basis.

India have traditionally excelled in home conditions, while Australia have often dominated in their own backyard, making the Border-Gavaskar Trophy a battle of contrasting cricketing styles.

Over the decades, the series has featured unforgettable matches, like the historic 2001 Kolkata Test, where India overturned a follow-on to clinch victory, and the 2020–21 series in Australia, where a depleted Indian squad pulled off an incredible series win at the Gabba.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has evolved into one of the most anticipated Test series globally, symbolizing the fierce but respectful rivalry between India and Australia.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series Results

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has produced some of the most thrilling Test series in cricket history, with both India and Australia claiming memorable victories over the years.

The series began in 1996, and since then, it has been contested in a rotating fashion between the two nations, usually every two years.

Australia initially dominated the trophy, winning the first five series. However, India began to assert its strength in the 2000s, with iconic series wins, including the historic 2001 triumph at home and the dramatic 2020-21 series victory in Australia.

As of now, both teams have had periods of dominance, with Australia leading the overall tally of wins in the series, but India have made significant strides of late, especially with their victories on Australian soil in recent years.

The most recent edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, played in 2023, saw India defending the title successfully at home, continuing their stronghold in the subcontinent.

To get yourself up to speed, here's the preview. We know the Australian XI, but a few things to be confirmed regarding India over the next hour.

2 hours before the first Test starts. Already fans queuing up. A crowd of around 30-35k expected today

Perfect, sunny conditions right now. Should be an advantage to bat first, pitch could deteriorate amid hotter weather later in the match

To kick things off, we are at the spiritual home of fast bowling as the series gets going in Perth. Home to the great Dennis Lillee, and to Curtly Ambrose's legendary spell of 1/7 (or 7/1 - however the Aussies want to write it), fast bowlers have made life difficult for many-a-batter in Perth, although much of that has happened on the opposite bank of the Swan river at the WACA. This new Perth Stadium has witnessed only four Tests, the first of which incidentally involved India back in 2018. It was the scene of one of Virat Kohli's finest knocks at the international level as he made a superb hundred on a pitch with pace, bounce and quite a bit of grass.

Nishant Tyagi: Really excited to see how two fast bowlers leading their respective teams tweak their strategies as the situation demands! Sets the template for more fast bowlers as captains in the coming times. This is gonna be one heck of a match for sure!!

Pratik Kute: I would be surprise if I dont see Ashwin in Playing 11, considering the past matches at the new Perth Stadium and how Nathan Lyon proved to be lethal in the 2nd innings. Further Reddy and Ashwin can play the role of extra batters and expect they can add 100 runs amongst them and 3 tail bowlers.

Parva Vyas: Historic series this! All eyes on this Indian team in transition. However, I am confident India will do what they have always done: stand up and deliver. With both teams containing talisman after talisman and a potent mixture of experience and youth we will witness pure box office stuff folks!

Welcome to our live coverage. This is Sagar Chawla and I'll be joined by MS Ramakrishnan and Praveen Kumar to bring you all the action. Share your thoughts, memories, expectations and trepidations about the series using the 'Have Your Say' link on the desktop site.

There has been some unseasonal rain in the lead-up to this Test. Don't think there's going to be any problem over these next five days, but it does make you wonder if the rain has affected pitch preparation at all. Curator Isaac McDonald has said there's going to be a good amount of grass cover, and the general expectation is of a fast and bouncy pitch where the ball will also nip around to assist the seamers. Will it also deteriorate to the extent it did against Pakistan last year? McDonald doesn't believe so because of the way the weather has been. Right now, though, it is hot and sunny and a good number of spectators are making their way in.

Arif: "Jaiswal, Rohit, Gill, Virat, Rahul, Pant, Jurel, Ashwin, Shami, Bumrah, Siraj. Can't imagine the contest, if India plays with their strongest 11. Hope this squad will play atleast in any one test of this series." - Feels like Shami's absence will be significant

"I think the weak Australian batting lineup has been overlooked in the leadup. Smith, Marnus, Khawaja are all past their best, Head and Marsh are inconsistent and McSweeney has barely opened. I don't see them putting the runs on the board to win. 3-1 to India." Not sure India are travelling to well right now, either!
