Joy - A decent, entertaining watch but a poorly written film. Not even once did I get inspired by any of the highs or lows in the film. However,Jennifer Lawrence was bloody brilliant in the film.I've seen Room and I've seen this and though Brie was fantastic, I really think Jennifer deserved the Oscar.I don't get why do they count the film as a whole while giving an award for best actor/actress! I don't think any actress has so much of self confidence that Jennifer has in her.She literally holds the film together with her fantastic portrayal of Joy that even if you are left dissatisfied with the film, you keep asking for more only to see more of Joy onscreen. There's this scene right after their marriage where we get to see the life she is leading and the way Jennifer emotes and her dialogue delivery-WOW! Not to forget the whole retro feel and the old songs and the revolving stage and old school shopping network channels!
3/5

Phobia- Another film that's good for a psychological thriller but could've been much better.Apart from the chills here and there,I somehow felt wanting a bit more from the film. However, the concept and the writing is good and holds your attention till the end of the film. Radhika Apte again not just steals the show but carries the whole show on her shoulders. For me, it has to be this year's best performance by an actress in Bollywood, hands down. There's not even a single shot where she overacts and 'tries' to scare the audience. There's something so mind-blowing in her performance that there are so many instances in the film where you are supposed to sympathize with her and you do but at the same time you laugh at her😆.Very weird but the way she has enacted those scenes with her thick pune wala accent (the mathematical table recital while tied to the rope, closing the door on her boyfriend's face, shooing away the cat) makes those scenes my favourite in the film. The virtual reality part, though quite novel could have been better,in my opinion. But apart from the flaws, the film has a really good and powerful climax.I also like how they have touched upon the topic of sexual harassment as well. The Kieslowski's Red inspired opening and closing shots of the film were also very nicely done.

Nikki was zinda.
I did not get why was that guy always so lusty towards her? I mean was it love or lust? He was always trying to get a chance for ding dong.😕

Kapoor & Sons - Since 1921
Good one-time watch although I found it too dramatic on the whole. Sidharth was better here than in BBD and boy, he is so cute😳 Alia was not bad but she's so freaking overrated. Fawad was the best amongst the three: he aces emotional scenes.. I want to see more of him. Rishi Kapoor was the cutest thing about the film and I wanted to hug him all throughout<3 AND not to forget Ratna Pathak Shah, she is always awesome❤️

Udta Punjab: Read so much praise for this movie and the acting...but it's such a colossal waste of potential in the potent issue. Felt like the director couldn't decide if he wanted to make an indie flick or a typical Bollywood movie (to make it appealing and palatable for a wider audience.) Amit Trivedi's music was brilliant in context, but the movie ideally needed an ambience like Dev D for it to be best utilized...not this hodge-podge. Diljit outshone every other actor...he made Kareena and Shahid (with each of whom he shared scenes) look like no great shakes because of how natural and sincere he is. Alia was good in parts, artificial in others (particularly the way she bawls...oh, good grief those scenes were grating...but the director is most likely to fault for placing such prolonged, misplaced actions in the narrative.) Shahid was terrible...they could've written out the entire Tommy storyline and it wouldn't have made much difference to the part of the story that was actually impactful (not to mention it would've sheared down on the tiresome length.) His 'moment of realization' in jail, which is the crux of his entire arc, was so lacking in impact...his 'popstar' act was so OTT...and the ultimate crowning moment of cringe was him badly lip-syncing to Ikk Kudi in the hospital. And how did other Punjabis watch this movie without getting irritated at the way Shahid butchered the language? 😕Kareena was only marginally better (they could've just had her speak Hindi all the way through) and some among the supporting cast also struggled with this...which makes me believe that if they really wanted to do justice to the issue, they should've gone with a full Punjabi cast and made the movie in Punjabi. Presumably just to get it a wider audience, they got big Bollywood stars on board who stuck out for wrong reasons and reduced the believability of the story.

Acting scale: Diljit > Kareena (just for that one scene where Balli stabs her) > Alia > Shahid

2.5/5...the extra 0.5 just for Amit's music and Diljit bringing some gravitas and impact to the movie.

La Haine
Am gaining a new appreciation for French cinema.
This is a movie made brilliant by it's simplicity. And for a sad serious movie,it manages to be surprisingly funny as well.

The maker Matthieu Kassovitz was only 26 when he made this movie(won best director at Cannes for this). He is an affluent left wing Jew and it is interesting that one of the protagonists in the movie, Vinz is an impoverished, marginalised and angry Jew. Vinz is actually such a wannabe.

The characters -the arab, the black and the white guy -all look so real. These are not nice guys but somehow you just can't help feeling sorry for them.

Vincent Cassel just shines in this- as this wannabe gangster who wants to gain respect by killing a cop.The other guys are great as well.

This movie is not for right-wingers or people with closed minds.

MsDhoni: The Untold Story

At first, i must say it's a long one😆
Whatever..coming to the movie!
It's F A N T A S T I N G ❤️
SSR did justice with the role of Dhoni. 👏
But there r few scenes...where i didn't like SSR. Umm,,it's not like i didn't like SSR in those scenes...actually it felt that only Dhoni would fit for those scenes😆

Spoiler:
The Young Yuvi was just a mirror of Real Yuvi😆
I was really shocked at Priyanka's dead. Didn't think that i would get to watch such a tragic scene.
That Dhoni's helicopter shot

Somethings are repetitive & dragged. Editor could have cut those scenes to make the movie little shorter.
I really wanted to see some more things about Dhoni's career especially how he got the captaincy. And there was no mention of his wicket keeping in national team. Dhoni is a wonderful wicket keeper & so i think that should be added.

MS-Dhoni: The untold story
Watched the movie today .First thing movie was of 3 hours ,LIKE SERIOUSLY ? in my opinion it should have been cut short a bit .First half was really dragged .
Coming to the story i liked what i watched but it didn't really blow my mind like i was expecting to .They only focused on the world cup track in the second half , the storyline selection was disappointing ,I was expecting to see some untold story like you know the behind the scenes and intriguing stuffs but it was a let down .
The only thing that kept me hooked to the movie was SSR's performance as Dhoni .I was indifferent to this guy until this movie , when you watch the movie you can see how hard he worked on his body language to fit into this role.I liked how he emulated dhoni accent , it was on point .
Had it not been Dhoni's story i wouldn't even sit through the whole movie.
Over all it was OKAY-ish .The story is a disappointment but the performances are top-notch though.

Oh my god what an awful film! It was rushed and out of the place. Lots of potential but...handled very very poorly. With the exception of JWM, all of Imitaz's films seem to be like this.

I found the whole childhood aspect of Ved, the plays etc to be unnecessary. Also, the film never clarified what kind of issue he had? Did he have some kind of psychological problem? And how can Deepika just take him back after knowing that he is unstable?

Performances Ranbir did very well and rose above the script. Deepika was ...Deepika...lol didnt see anything great in her acting, same rona dhona she does in every movie. Why on earth was she nominated for this ?

Id give it 3/10 - horribly directed and executed!
