Zameen:-

One of the best Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan's movie. First Half is thriller and all about trying to catch those terrorist. second half is fight and love both halves. Where has that Rohit Shetty gone?

So I don't really watch Tamil movies much as language barrier can be annoying for me..The other day I came across this on Netflix and decided to give it a try as I got ready for bed.

I can see exactly why KJo or anyone in BW wants to remake this actually though I would not be surprised if this movie has polarizing views.. It's a pretty charming and relevant movie about the younger generation and their relationships, goals/aspirations. The main 'conflict' about both wanting to follow their dreams and not wanting marriage to tie one down is pretty relevant...I think this is one reason why people today are so scared of marriage anyways...marriage = having to give up your career goals, not only freedom. However, I think this could have been explored more in depth too...as it does feel rushed by the end and maybe it's because the movie is rather subtle but it feels like MR simply wanted to deal with it more on the surface rather than go deep into it...so yes, a certain intensity and depth is missing. But at the same time, I don't think this film paraded itself as an intense film either. From the beginning it always seemed like a fun film.

The movie kinda reminded me of SDR as ultimately the message is the same, but it has two more likable characters unlike SDR's confused ones. I loved the old vs new in this movie...the tradition vs modern relationships. I LOVED the older couple honestly and their story.

The acting is top notch...Nithya Menon is fabulous..literally the movie is wonderful as long as she's there...Dulquer is cute and charming..and good enough in his role...their chemistry makes the movie work because it's fun to watch them together. Prakash Raj and Leela Samson too -- pivotal parts done very well! For the life of me, I have no idea how Sharddha and Shaad are going to pull this off. Shaad is hopeless and I think Shraddha would make Tara annoying by overacting a la EV. Sharddha in a bubbly-esque role is kinda scary tbh. ARK shouldn't really have a problem with Adi though. Straightforward character, he mostly has to be charming. πŸ˜†

Oh technical aspects are great ehre...cinematography and ARR's music!
Overall a good watch.

Yay..Am actually glad you liked it πŸ˜† I think the main drawback with the film is the lack of conflict. For all its flaws, i do think MR solved the issue reasonably better than what Ayaan did in YJHD given the fact that Bunny had similar dreams and aspirations πŸ˜† You should check out Bharadwaj Rangan's review..Its a great take on the film..He even goes to the extent of saying MR need not worry about mediocre scripts so long as he casts actors like Nithya πŸ˜† Btw, Alia was the first choice for the role..So glad she let it pass πŸ˜† Shradha is so gonna murder Tara πŸ˜†

Shaandaar

I have no idea why I tried watching this after the across the board terrible reviews it gotπŸ˜†...maybe I still wanted to believe Vikas Bahl can't make something THAT terrible...I was proven wrong quite brutally

One of the most terrible pieces of work to come out of bollywood...even more shocking that this could come from the same mind that made Chillar Party and Queen...two movies which had solid heart.

Shaandaar has everything but heart...it's an endless series of painfully forced laughs/events trying to pass off as a story...there is no connect b/w any of the characters.

No matter what the actors say, it's so obvious they signed this on only cuz they wanted to work with Vikas Bahl after Queen...doesn't seem like anyone bothered reading the script...not to say Shahid has't chosen stupid scripts before but no one expects something like this from Vikas Bahl...if this was a Sajid Khan movie, I would still get the levels of asinine...but this was just...confounding stuff.

Not a single likeable character in the movie...over the top "whimsy/metaphors" if they can even be called that...animated frogs, butterflies, ladybugsπŸ˜•πŸ˜†, KJo movie tropes on steroids. How did Vikas go so SO wrong...I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.

I don't think there's a complete lack of conflict but I do think they don't properly talk about it even if the point does come across ( for Hindi audience is going to have to be more direct or we'll end up with another SDR where people simply didn't get it πŸ˜†) ..I think MR didn't want to deal with it in great depth πŸ˜† I think he intended for the other dramatic points like Adi's family, Tara's mom to not really be big melodramatic moments. The main conflict is always that there's a deadline on Adi-Tara's relationship...until they both go their own ways in their careers. Of course on the way they fall in love. Ya it's reminiscent of YJHD, definitely handled better here.

Nithya is fabulous man! I loved the scene with Ganapathy whenot she gets her acceptance letter for Paris...I want both ...or the scene with Adi's SIL abs she tells her that marriage isn't necessary abs she can talk to Adi also...not to mention the lovely scenes with Dulquer. I'm glad Alia didn't do this role. But that makes me wonder why KJo didnt cast her in the remake...maybe because she's already done it before. Oh I shudder to think what Shraddha will do here. This many dialogues...free spirited character. Full EV repeat. Sonakshi would have been better. The role is actually right up Pari's alley but she's done this before many times too abs it would be a repeat of SDR for her πŸ˜†

Sorry to butt in but I just watched this movie today as well and I'm sorry but please no Pari...I have never seen Nithya before this but wow what a light this woman has inside her...she glows with the power of feminine energy in the most charming way while Pari just ends up sounding bitchy to me now in whatever she does.

Nithya actually weirdly reminds me of Kajol...the confidence, the big emotive eyes. None of today's girls have it, least of all in Bollywood. After ages I saw a female lead this dynamic, she has that spark of previous gen heroines.

Alia would be too waif-like in this role but I guess she's done something slightly similar in Two States already...Sonakshi could pull this off, yes but again after seeing Nithya, I find it hard to imagine other actresses in this role...none of the current lot seem to be able to manage to straddle the line b/w being charming, spirited without coming across as petulantly annoying. The way Tara's confidence was shown in the movie seems to be all thanks to the actress's natural charm only.

Dulquer was very cute too...Adi can be passable in the Hindi version I guess cuz he can bring out the innocence in Adi's character.

The story is pretty simple and straightforward, it's mainly the performances that fuel the film...Nithya owns the film essentially...I liked the old couple too...nice to see that Dabangg villain guy getting a different kind of role from his usual ones...lol

Biggest pile of garbage i have ever watched , every character was idiotic in the movie.Even th song ( apart form 1-2) from really bad and unheard .The only thing i liked was Chandrika and that will probably stop me from giving negative points .

The problem is that the solution is not practical..But then most 'happy ever afters' sound contrived to me if you are really gonna analyze it from a practical POV so i guess its kinda unfair to single out this film..But my point was that since MR din bother going into the depth of the problem, it was sort of a hasty solution..And yeah, like AreYaar said, the film is mainly saved by the performances..I cant think of one heroine in Bollywood who can pull off Tara the way Nithya did..The sort of conviction, confidence and charm Nithya lends to Tara is incredible..I remember reading an article that Mani Ratnam was unhappy with Shaad's choice of leads and he couldn't picture anyone apart from Nithya as Tara..I can totally see why πŸ˜† And he seems to have really liked her cos she is cast in his next film too πŸ˜†
