^^^Same here..they should have made this film about Bajirao only and kept Mastani as one aspect of his life. As it is Mastani doesnt really have much to do in this film.

Shaandaar
OH GAWD. Don't even get me started on the storyline. Looks like Vikas Behl and producers were high on those pot brownies when they okayed this film. The only person I enjoyed entirely in this film was Sanah Kapoor.
Alia looked really mature and pretty but she had nothing else to show off.
I enjoyed Shahid's dancing in Gulabo and Shaam Shaandaar and his hair.
I loved Gulabo and Shaam Shaandaar as songs and the videos.
Other than that, I hated everything. It was so boring. Even daadi and Pankaj Kapur got irritating after a while. I started watching the movie at 3am, went to sleep after Gulabo, woke up and completed it by fast forwarding. The dialogues were so freaking boring, even the romance of it all, nothing magical. I was shocked within the animation part in the beginning as to how they even chose this subject - it sounded so stupid from the word go. This is one film that has ZERO repeat value for me. I think I'll even rank Dilwale and Bombay Velvet over this film.

Bajirao Mastani

Fantastic storyline & fabulous sets (as required for period films)

Ranveer Singh was wonderful . I never liked this actor before but after bajirao i become his fan ... he was wonderful & the most important pillar of the film

Deepika was looking stunning ... the portrayal of mastani was great , having teary eyes all the time as the whole society was blaming you for ruining lives of baji & kaashi was touchy ( mastani was justified , whats the big deal if rao loved her too?are yaar raja mantriyo vagereh ke toh bahur se queens hoti thi so what? )... deepika too lived the role of mastani ... fantastic

Kaashi priyanka was equally wonderful as kaashi & portrayed each & every emotion so very well

On the face off scene between kaashi & mastani both actresses nailed it completely 😊

Direction , music , screenplay, editing each & every thing was superb ... No one can make such beautiful period film in present time of bollywood

My rating 4.5/5

PK Review:
Yeah I know I am a year late in watching this, but I really had no interest in this movie. Today I was really bored so decided to watch it because of the hype.

Overall, nice movie. Great storyline, great message! I do feel it was too simliar to OMG though. I also felt that OMG did a better job in delivering its message as opposed to PK.

The songs - why do Raju Hirani's songs always suck? They always sound like nursery rhymes for god sakes. His songs always have that stupid "child-ish" touch to it liek Zoobi Doobi, Pal Pal Har Pal, etc etc. He really needs to make his music better, I just hate this kind of music!

Although I cant find any major mistakes with PK, I still feel a bit let-down by it as in I was expecting alot more! It couldvbe been more impactful but it just wasnt!

As for the acting, Aamir was great, although sometimes he was OTT! Sometimes his acting was just like his act in Dhoom-2 where he played the autistic brother. Im not sure why he had to make those strange expressions and behave like that - it seemed gimmicky to me!

Anushka ...this is probably the worst she has looked on screen. Honestly, she looked hideous! Sushant looked prettier than her and thats not a compliment! Her acting was alright, she didnt have much to do even though she had a lot of screentime. IT wasnt a performance oriented role!

Sushant was good in his extended cameo!

Overall I would give it a 7/10

Dilwale

Surprising that the rare movie in recent years where SRK DIDN'T ham his way through ended up less successful than his other super cringe-worthy performances like CE and HNY...oh the wonderful irony of cinema😆

Going by general Rohit Shetty parameters, this one still had more of an attempt at putting in emotions other than the usual caricatures.

To put it in a nutshell, I didn't cringe my way through this like CE and HNY and SRK was surprisingly restrained in this one...Varun was the one who got to do most of the goofy slapstick and he did it pretty charmingly too. The relationship b/w the brothers was nicely shown and the comedy scenes worked for me😆...died laughing in the whole Ramlal-Pogo narration scene...also these comedy scenes were anyday better than all the crap in HNY.

The girls were actually a bit shortchanged...Kriti much more so than Kajol obviously but Kajol being Kajol made the material work with her natural magnetism.

This isn't the ideal/larger than life love story that an SRK-Kajol fan might hope for...it was different...but not bad different...essentially the movie isn't even a love story anyways...this is about as much of a love story as Rohit Shetty could make...lol...and when I see his other work, by that standard toh this might as well be his Romeo-Juliet😆

Despite everything, SRK-Kajol made this work for me...in whatever brief flashes they got together...the way they'd lean into each other...and the ending with the nod to DDLJ😆...maybe my expectations were that nil to begin with and the fangirl in me is decently satisfied with the chance to have seen them onscreen until who knows whenever that happens again😆...I'm happy as long as I see them grinning at each other the way they do😆

2.5/5 for the wholesome feel good factor to it.

Bajirao Mastani review:

The film starts of well with BajiRao's coronation and then growth as a warrior. Then by the time Mastani starts dancing in her father's court it turns W*Fish. Again picks up a little post interval to go totally downhill from the Pinga song.

The good-
Ranveer: This film along with DDD really display his growth as an actor. He was pitch perfect. He manages to cover his flaws I saw in films like Lootera and Gunday ie his delivery and hamming in dramatic scenes. He doesnt strike a wrong note. Fortunately SLB doesnt depend on Ranveer's body to attract the female(or male) audiences here which is a relief to someone like me who doesnt enjoy those 6 pack display by any actor. Basically all the flaws of Ram Leela is covered in this film.

Tanvi Azmi: She was perfect as Radha Maa. Unlike Supriya Pathak who went fully OTT she is controlled. She brings out her character's intentions and concerns really well.

Priyanka: She did well as Kashi...Baji's hapless wife. Her expressions were bang on. Her huge lips were a distraction though.

Others: I liked a few more supporting actors like Mahesh Manjrekar, Milind Soman and the actor who played Cheema.

Sets and granduer: Like any SLB you can see the effort that has gone into the sets and costumes.

The bad-
Deepika: I think this film was one of her weakest characterizations since her career hit a high with Cocktail. Its not that her acted badly..her character was etched badly and she couldnt do much about it. She also looked washed out for some reason...her eyes always seem sad and tearful even when there is no reason to be sad.

The extras: Man! Every scene had like a thousand extra wearing the same clothes. Initially it was dazzling but later it got a bit too much.

The perfectness of it all: It was as if SLB was even scared to let anything mar the beauty of his frame. Like Mastani doesnt look pregnant even when in labor. Or when Mastani and Kashi but kumkum its so light you can hardly see it. As if SLB didnt want the kumkum spoiling their lovely faces.

The story and screenplay: Like I said before the film starts of well and first half hour or so impresses you. The first W*F moment happens when Mastani starts dancing in her father's court like a courtesan. Then again when her father gives her permission to go Bajirao's house as a gift. Then again when she comes to Bajirao's court to dance. How come Baji doesnt know the princess was around? And if Radha was preventing her how did Mastani still make it? I forgot to mention the scene when Baji goes to Mastani's bedroom in BundelKhand and viceversa. Everything is so khullam khulla that its not believable for those times.
The story meanders here and Baji and Mastani meet again in Pune with some unbelievable stuff for it to happen to a princess. Like Mastani living with prostitutes in the city. Where do they all disappear later? Then again Mastani being put up in some ruins in Satara. If Baji knew she was there why did he let it happen? Also Kashi not really knowing Baji is married again? Then again Mastani giving birth alone without help.
The story picks up a little after this for a while...till the Pinga song. First Kashi is upset with Mastani. In the Pinga song they are bonding and then again she is back to square one..she even banishes Baji after that. The worst bit is though yet to arrive...first the pre climax scene where Baji alone defeats an army and then the climax scene where its obvious he will die but death refuses to come onscreen. For the first time I felt like walking out of the cinema at that point. I thought the film would never end. When he dies its a relief ki picture khatam hua.

I think the biggest flaw in the film is you dont feel for Mastani at all. Its not really Bajirao and Mastani story. Its a Bajirao story only. You dont connect to their love story instead you see Mastani as an interloper. You connect more with Radha Maa or Cheema who are trying to preserve their family/culture and standing in society. You even feel for Kashi the hapless wife who gets abandoned for no fault of hers but tries to still do her duties as Mrs.Peshwa. For the protagonist Deepika has very less screentime. Maybe a little more than Priyanka and Tanvi Azmi due to her songs. You just get the feeling that a talented woman like Mastani who was a princess to boot simply wasted her talent trying to find acceptance in a orthodox setup when she could have been more useful to society elsewhere.

The film was Ranveer's through and through. Infact he owns BajiRao so much so the film should have been called Bajirao and shown his journey as a warriror which pales in the end due to Bajirao going crazy in love. Bajirao the man and the warrior intrigued me. We hardly know about him in history when compared to Shivaji and this film could have been a good way to address this lack of knowledge instead of trivializing this warrior's greatness.

I rate it a 3/5 ...2 points less for the screenplay.

same feeling here😆
as if one kothe like song mohe rang do laal doesn't bore you enough, comes another dull kothe song mastani. absolutely no need. i don't know why mastani got pissed when bajirao's mum presents her the ghongroos.

such a wannabe epic movie with such lame story.
good review!

I am not sure if I ever wrote a review for this:
Talvar

This is a really well made, slightly depressing/horrifying/shocking movie tbh even though it makes you laugh at the most unexpected moments. It exposes various issues in India...how messed up the legal system actually is...professional rivalries, powerplays, overbearing media, society, immense pressure to close a case can impact the search for whatever the truth is.

Yes it very obviously takes the side of the parents, which for the type of movie it is, it could have seriously avoided. Honestly, I don't know who killed Arushi, but the UP police did such a horrid job in the first investigation for an open and shut case that it's impossible to know whose right and whose not. That poor girl will never truly get justice as there's no way to know now.

Irrfan and Vishal Bhardwaj's screenplay holds this movie together. Irrfan is fabulous..and you can see he's enjoyed doing this film and role massively. His second in command Vedant is also good..Konkona/Neeraj Kabi also lend credibility to the parts of the parents.

3.5/5
